Chronicle

4.1
(1,900 reviews)
North Goa, Goa

Chronicle is Anjuna's upscale option, a gastropub that takes the raw beach energy of the neighborhood and puts a polish on it. The space is well-designed with indoor and outdoor seating, a proper bar with craft cocktails, and a food menu that goes beyond the standard beach shack fare. Live music on weekends and DJ sets during the week keep the entertainment consistent. The crowd is older than Baga's and more diverse than a pure trance venue.

What to Expect

A well-designed gastropub with good cocktails, quality food, live music, and a mixed crowd of expats, long-stay travelers, and upscale domestic tourists. The atmosphere is social without being aggressive. It bridges the gap between beach shack casual and city-bar polish.

Atmosphere

Polished but relaxed. The design is attractive without being intimidating. Conversation flows. Live music adds energy without overwhelming it. It's the kind of bar where you stay longer than planned.

Music

Live bands on weekends: rock, jazz, blues, and fusion. DJ sets midweek: deep house, nu-disco, and chillout. Volume is social, not deafening.

Dress Code

Casual to smart casual. No restrictions, but the crowd tends to dress a step above beachwear.

Couples, foodies, live music fans, visitors who want quality without pretense, a step up from beach shacks

The outdoor seating is better for groups; the bar counter is good for solo visitors or couples. Saturday nights bring live bands that draw the biggest crowd. The cocktail menu rotates seasonally; ask the bartender what's new. Food is genuinely good here; don't skip it.

Chronicle fills a niche in Anjuna's nightlife that didn't exist until recently: a venue where the drinks are crafted, the food is cooked with intention, and the music is curated, all without losing the relaxed Goa spirit. The space combines indoor seating (air-conditioned, which is a luxury in Goa) with a larger outdoor area under fairy lights and tropical plants.

The cocktail program is among North Goa's best. The bartending team uses fresh juices, house syrups, and local spirits (feni features in several drinks) to create a menu that reflects the location. A kokum martini and a cashew feni sour are standout house specials. Prices at 400 to 700 INR are moderate for the quality.

Food is a genuine draw, not an afterthought. The kitchen produces dishes that range from wood-fired pizzas to pan-Asian small plates, executed with care. Mains at 400 to 800 INR represent excellent value. The prawn recheado (a Goan spice preparation) is worth ordering specifically.

Live music on weekends brings local and touring musicians who play rock, jazz, and fusion sets that are appropriate for the venue's energy level: loud enough to enjoy, quiet enough to talk through. Weeknight DJ sets lean toward deep house and nu-disco.

Chronicle competes with Cape Town Cafe (similar positioning, South African theme) and Gunpowder (primarily a restaurant). Chronicle wins on cocktail quality and music consistency. For visitors who've done the beach shack thing and want their next evening to feel slightly more curated, this is the step up.
