James Holloway

Legal Reviewer

Former U.S. immigration attorney · 30+ years of international practice

Role

James reviews the Legal Framework and Enforcement Reality sections of country guides on this site. His job is narrow: confirm that our description of the written law and how it is actually enforced is consistent with reliable sources, and flag claims that need stronger support before publication.

He does not write the guides. He does not visit the venues or districts. He reads our drafts the same way he used to read briefs from junior attorneys: looking for unsupported claims, misstatements of statute, and gaps between what a law says and how it is enforced on the street.

Background

James practiced U.S. immigration law for thirty-one years before retiring. His casework focused on cross-border employment authorization, consular processes, and how foreign criminal records intersect with U.S. admissibility. That work involved constant reading of foreign legal codes, often in jurisdictions where the written law differed materially from local enforcement practice. It is the same gap our country guides try to describe honestly.

He is not licensed to practice in any of the countries covered on this site, and the reviews here are not legal advice. They are an extra set of eyes on factual claims about law and enforcement.

What His Review Does Not Cover

Why a Reviewer At All

The legal status of adult entertainment varies enormously across jurisdictions, and small mistakes in describing it can mislead travelers in consequential ways. Telling someone that an activity is "tolerated" in a country where it is actively prosecuted is not a small error. Having a second set of trained eyes on the legal sections is the cheapest insurance against that kind of mistake.
