Toto's Garage

4.3

Bandra, Mumbai

Toto's Garage is a Bandra legend. Tucked into a narrow lane off Pali Naka, this dive bar has been serving cold beer and loud rock music since 2007. The space is small, maybe 80 people at capacity, with walls covered in band posters, license plates, and the accumulated grime of a thousand good nights. There's no bottle service, no VIP section, no dress code worth mentioning. You stand, you drink, you listen to whatever the DJ or live band is playing that night. It's the antidote to every overpriced Mumbai lounge.

What to Expect

A standing-room-only dive bar with rock and alternative music, cheap beer by Mumbai standards, and a crowd that ranges from college students to advertising executives. No pretense, no VIP treatment, no dress code. The energy is real.

Atmosphere

Loud, sweaty, friendly, and unpretentious. The closest thing to a Western dive bar that Mumbai has produced. Regulars are protective of the place and welcoming to newcomers.

Music

Rock, classic rock, alternative, indie. Live bands on Wednesdays and some weekends. DJ sets lean toward guitar-driven music.

Dress Code

Anything goes. Shorts and flip-flops are fine. This is one of the few Bandra venues where nobody cares what you're wearing.

Best For

Rock music fans, people tired of pretentious Mumbai clubs, budget-friendly nights out, solo travelers looking for easy conversation

Payment

Cash preferred, cards accepted but slow. UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe) works.

Price Range

Beer 250-350 INR, cocktails 350-500 INR, no cover charge

Beer ~3-4 USD / 2.70-3.60 EUR, cocktails ~4-6 USD / 3.60-5.50 EUR

Hours

19:00 to 01:30 daily, closed Mondays

Insider Tip

Arrive before 9 PM on weekends or expect a 30-minute queue. The bar doesn't take reservations. Cash is faster than card here. Wednesdays feature live bands that pack the place by 10 PM.

Full Review

Toto's Garage occupies a basement-level space in a narrow Bandra lane that you'd walk past if you didn't know it was there. The entrance is unmarked by design. Inside, the ceiling is low, the walls are covered in stickers and posters, and the bar runs along one side of the room. Capacity is roughly 80, and it hits that most weekend nights.

The music defines the experience. Toto's is Mumbai's rock bar. The DJ playlist runs from Led Zeppelin to Arctic Monkeys, and Wednesday live band nights bring local acts that range from competent to genuinely good. Volume is high. Conversation requires shouting or stepping outside to the narrow alley where smokers gather.

Drinks are cheap for Bandra. A Kingfisher beer costs 250 INR, about half what you'd pay at a lounge 200 meters away. Cocktails are simple and strong. There's no food menu worth mentioning, no table service, no reservations. You order at the bar, you carry your own drinks, you find a spot to stand.

The crowd is Toto's real asset. On any given night you'll find advertising creatives, musicians, journalists, off-duty bartenders from fancier venues, and the occasional Bollywood actor who prefers anonymity to VIP treatment. Solo travelers fit in easily because the standing-room format forces proximity and the music gives everyone common ground.

Compared to Bandra's other options, Toto's fills a unique gap. Trilogy is a superclub. Bastian is a celebrity scene. Tryst is a cocktail lounge. Toto's is just a bar. That simplicity is its strength.

The Neighborhood

Toto's sits in a narrow lane off Pali Naka in Bandra West, Mumbai's most fashionable neighborhood. The surrounding area has dozens of restaurants and bars within a 10-minute walk.

Getting There

Uber or Ola to Pali Naka, Bandra West. The bar is down a narrow lane; ask any local or auto driver for 'Toto's Garage' and they'll know. Bandra Station (Western Line) is a 15-minute walk. No parking available.
