Operetta Cafe
Operetta Café sits directly on the Al Majaz Waterfront promenade, with a large outdoor terrace positioned to face the Musical Fountain across Khalid Lagoon. The venue is a café and juice bar rather than a restaurant, with the emphasis firmly on beverages and light snacks rather than full meals. The drink menu covers fresh juices, specialty mocktails, Arabic coffee, karak, and a shisha service that runs from early evening until closing. Operetta's main competitive advantage is location: the terrace is one of the closest seated viewing points for the Musical Fountain shows, making it the default choice for visitors who want drinks while watching the evening performance. No alcohol is served in Sharjah. The clientele is younger than at the more established Arabic cafés along the promenade, with a noticeable presence of Arab university students and young professional couples.

What to Expect
A lively, casual café aimed at a younger crowd. The terrace atmosphere is louder and more energetic than Shahrazad. The fountain view is the main draw. Service is competent but fast-turnover oriented rather than the attentive, unhurried style of the older Arabic cafés.
Social and slightly buzzy. More energy than the traditional Arabic cafés; less so than a Dubai bar.
Contemporary Arabic and Gulf pop at moderate volume. Turns up slightly after 9 PM.
Casual within Sharjah's dress code rules. A younger crowd, with smart casual as the norm in the evening.
Younger visitors, couples wanting a picturesque spot during the fountain shows, and anyone looking for a full mocktail menu rather than just tea and coffee.
Cards and cash both accepted.

Insider Tip
The terrace tables closest to the water railing book up first. Arrive 30 minutes before a fountain show for the best seat. The mango-chili mocktail (AED 32) is the house standout. Service can slow significantly during the fountain show as staff attention diverts; order before the show starts.
Full Review
Operetta sits at the most commercially active stretch of the promenade, adjacent to other cafés and a small kiosk market. The outdoor terrace has around 40 seats arranged to maximize the lagoon view. On clear evenings, the fountain is visible with the city skyline behind it and the illuminated Al Majaz park in the foreground. It's a genuinely appealing setting.
The mocktail menu is more developed than most competitors. Fourteen options cover tropical, citrus, and herbal flavor profiles. The preparation is fresh rather than pre-bottled: juices are pressed to order and garnishes are added tableside. At AED 25-50, these are reasonable by UAE standards. The karak here uses a spicier blend than some venues, which suits anyone who finds the standard Gulf preparation too mild.
Shisha service varies by time of day. Early evening preparation is careful. After 9 PM, when tables fill and the team is managing multiple pipes simultaneously, coal management becomes less consistent. Requesting attention from the shisha staff rather than the regular waiters improves response time.
The fountain show runs roughly every hour from 8 PM. Each show lasts about five minutes. The experience from Operetta's front terrace is excellent: close enough to see the individual water jets and lighting changes clearly. Several other cafés along the promenade offer similar views, but Operetta's terrace layout is optimized for it in a way that the narrower tables at neighboring venues are not.
