Layali Zaman
Layali Zaman sits in the Al Majaz 3 residential area, a short walk inland from the main waterfront promenade. The venue operates as a Lebanese and Gulf restaurant with a full shisha service running until late. The interior is designed in a traditional Arabic register: carved wooden screens, mosaic tile work, and low pendant lighting. The outdoor section is a covered courtyard with fountain seating. The food menu covers mezze, grilled meats, and Arabic flatbreads, alongside a drink menu that features fresh juices, Arabic coffee, karak, and specialty mocktails. Layali Zaman draws a mixed crowd that skews more local than tourist-heavy, with Arab professionals, family groups, and regular residents making up the majority of the evening clientele. No alcohol is available anywhere in Sharjah. The restaurant's shisha list runs to around 25 blends, with Jordanian and Turkish tobaccos as the main premiums.

What to Expect
A proper Arabic restaurant and shisha café that operates at a traditional pace. Service is attentive but unhurried. Food quality is consistent rather than exceptional. The shisha is the main draw, and the setting adds genuine atmosphere that the waterfront's more casual cafés lack.
Warm and traditional. The design choices create a sense of being inside rather than on a promenade, which makes it better for longer stays.
Background Arabic and oriental music. Occasional live oud on weekend evenings.
Smart casual. Slightly more formal than the outdoor waterfront cafés; flip-flops and beachwear would be out of place here.
Dinner plus shisha evenings for groups or couples. Good for visitors wanting a fuller Arabic dining experience rather than just a coffee stop.
Cards accepted. Cash also fine.

Insider Tip
Order the mixed mezze platter for two if you want to eat and smoke without committing to a full meal. Reservations by phone are worth making on Thursday and Friday evenings. The indoor courtyard section is better than the street-side outdoor tables for long sessions due to airflow.
Full Review
The entrance on Al Majaz 3 is easy to walk past if you don't know to look. The frontage is understated: a carved wooden door, Arabic lettering, and a small menu board outside. Inside, the room opens up into a double-height space with a mezzanine level overlooking the main floor. The decoration is consistent and intentional, not the generic Gulf café fit-out that many venues settle for.
The food side is solid. Hummus, mutabbal, and fattoush are all prepared in-house and taste it. The mixed grill platter at AED 110 for two people covers enough grilled meats and flatbreads to constitute a full dinner. Shisha arrives promptly after ordering and the tobacco preparation is careful, with coals managed regularly by a dedicated server rather than waiting for customers to flag problems.
The mocktail menu deserves mention. Layali Zaman puts genuine effort into this section, which is not universal across Sharjah's café scene. The passion fruit and mint cooler (AED 28) and the rose and lychee fizz (AED 30) are both well-balanced. Fresh juice is also available from a list of around 15 options.
Peak hours (9 PM to midnight on weekends) fill all tables. The service remains composed at these volumes, which suggests good staffing ratios. The main impractical aspect is the location: it's a five-minute walk from the main promenade, which means you'll pass several more visible cafés first. The walk is worth it for a full-dinner experience.
