Garage Beer Co
Garage Beer Co is a craft brewery and taproom on Carrer del Consell de Cent, occupying a former garage space with exposed concrete floors, industrial lighting, and the brewing tanks visible behind a glass partition at the back. The brewery launched in 2015 and has grown into one of Barcelona's most respected independent beer operations, distributing across Spain while keeping the taproom as its flagship. Twelve or so taps rotate regularly, with a core of hop-forward IPAs, session pales, and stouts alongside seasonal releases and collaborations. Pours come in American-style sizes, 30 or 50 cl, with tasting flights available for anyone wanting to work through the rotation. Food is limited to bar snacks: olives, cheese plates, the occasional pizza collaboration with a nearby kitchen. The crowd is young, international, and beer-focused, with regulars who follow the brewery's releases and visitors drawn by the reputation on craft beer apps. Prices run fair for the category: 4-6 EUR for most pours. Weeknights stay manageable; Friday and Saturday the place fills up and overflows onto the sidewalk.

Full Review
Garage Beer Co is a short walk from the MACBA, on the quieter end of Carrer del Consell de Cent. The entrance opens into a tall, concrete-floored room with the bar on the right and long wooden tables down the middle. The tap list is chalked onto a board above the bar, updated daily with the beer name, style, ABV, and the brewery it came from. About half the taps are Garage's own beers, the rest a rotating selection of guest breweries from Spain, the UK, and the US.
I worked through a flight of four: a session pale, a West Coast IPA, a New England hazy, and a coffee stout. The flight came in a wooden paddle with tasting notes for each, and the server walked through the lineup in clear English. The hazy IPA was the standout, bright with Citra and Mosaic, fresh enough to suggest it had been kegged in the last week. At 11 EUR for the flight it was priced reasonably for the quality, and the taster sizes were generous enough that two flights could substitute for a full evening.
The crowd on a Wednesday skewed international: British, German, and American visitors outnumbered locals, and the conversations at the bar centered on recent releases from other Spanish craft breweries. Staff knew the beer well and answered technical questions without hesitation. The snacks are an afterthought; come having eaten, or plan to grab pizza at one of the nearby spots on Carrer dels Tallers afterward.
Compared to BlackLab at the Marina or Edge Brewing across the city, Garage holds up on beer quality and beats both on location and atmosphere. For craft beer in central Barcelona, this is the anchor. Arrive before 20:00 on weekends to avoid the overflow crowd outside.

Other Venues in El Raval

Bar Marsella
Operating since 1820, this is Barcelona's oldest bar and the city's most famous absinthe joint. Hemingway and Picasso drank here. The crumbling interiors haven't been updated in decades, and that's the point. Absinthe served the traditional way, with sugar and water.

33|45
Vinyl bar and cocktail spot decorated with vinyl records and vintage audio equipment. Good cocktails at reasonable prices, a local crowd, and DJs spinning funk, soul, and disco on weekends. One of upper Raval's most reliably good bars.

Moog
Small but legendary electronic music club near the bottom of La Rambla. Two floors: techno downstairs, indie and pop upstairs. Operating since 1996, Moog has hosted some of electronic music's biggest names in an intimate setting. Entry EUR 10-15.

Betty Ford's
Dive bar on Carrer de Joaquin Costa with sticky floors, cheap drinks, and a crowd that doesn't care about appearances. Open late, unpretentious, and reliably packed on weekends. One of the last genuine dive bars in a rapidly gentrifying area.

Bar Pastís
Tiny French-themed bar on Carrer de Santa Monica decorated with Edith Piaf memorabilia. Live music on some nights: chanson, flamenco, or jazz. The space holds maybe 40 people, creating an intimate atmosphere that larger venues can't replicate.

Negroni Cocktail Bar
Dimly lit cocktail bar on Carrer de Joaquin Costa with a strong local following. The bartenders take their craft seriously and the drink menu changes seasonally. One of upper Raval's best spots for a quiet conversation over well-made drinks.
