Glaciar Bar
Glaciar Bar is a corner bar at the western entrance of Plaça Reial, with a large outdoor terrace facing into the square and a small interior with wooden tables and a counter running along one wall. The bar has been a fixture of the square for decades and serves as a meeting point for people arriving in the plaza: its terrace is usually the first thing you see stepping through the archway from La Rambla. The drinks menu stays simple: beer, sangria, basic cocktails, wine, soft drinks, coffee. Prices run standard for Plaça Reial, which is to say above the Raval and Gothic averages but below the upper-end cocktail bars on the square. Food is limited to sandwiches, tapas, and basic plates, most priced 6-12 EUR. The crowd is almost entirely tourist, which is no surprise for the location, but the atmosphere on the terrace stays pleasant: the square itself provides the entertainment, with street performers, passing pedestrians, and the rotating activity of the plaza filling the space. Service can be slow during peak evening hours; the terrace is large and the staff are usually stretched.

The terrace is the only reason to come; the interior is unremarkable. Arrive early evening (before 19:30) for a good people-watching table. Sangria by the jug works well for groups.
Full Review
Glaciar Bar is impossible to miss when entering Plaça Reial from La Rambla: the corner terrace sits immediately to the right as you step through the archway, wrapping around the building with wicker chairs and small metal tables. I came in mid-afternoon on a weekday, grabbed a terrace table without waiting, and ordered a beer and an espresso. Both arrived in about five minutes, which is quick for a busy terrace in central Barcelona.
The beer was an Estrella draft for 4 EUR, the coffee 2 EUR, both priced about what you'd expect for the location. A plate of pan amb tomaquet with ham followed, 8 EUR, and was fine without being notable. The menu doesn't try to be more than it is. The point of coming here isn't the food or the drinks; it's the seat itself, with a clean view across the square to Gaudí's wrought-iron lamp standards and the palm trees above the fountain.
Street performers rotated through during my two hours on the terrace: a guitar duo, a juggler, a statue artist who held perfect stillness for 20 minutes. Pickpocket-watch groups worked the square, which the staff pointed out to a few tourists who looked unaware. The crowd at my neighboring tables was entirely international: German, French, Italian, English, with a cluster of South American visitors at a larger table.
Compared to Ocaña across the square, Glaciar is cheaper, more informal, and less about the drinks themselves. It's a solid spot for an early-evening beer or a coffee while watching the square wake up for the night, then you move on. Pair with a meal at one of the neighboring Plaça Reial restaurants, then head over to Tarantos for the flamenco show.

Metro Liceu L3 (green) is three minutes away. Enter the square from La Rambla through the marked archway; Glaciar is the first corner on your right. Taxis drop on La Rambla itself.
