Faust

Psyrri, Athens

Faust runs from Athinaidos Street in Psyrri, operating as a multi-level cultural venue that combines a ground-floor bar, a main-floor club programming DJ sets and live electronic performances, and an upper-level theater space that hosts cabaret, comedy, burlesque, and alternative theater productions. The model draws on the European cultural-venue tradition where music, performance, and nightlife occupy the same building across different programming tracks, and Faust has maintained that format for over a decade. The ground-floor bar runs as an accessible entry point with drinks and conversation, the main floor shifts from pre-club bar into a full DJ-driven space as the night progresses, and the upper theater programs scheduled shows several nights per week that typically start between 21:00 and 22:00. DJ programming on the main floor runs broad: techno and tech-house on some weekends, hip-hop and R&B on others, occasional themed nights programming Greek music or specific international genres. The crowd composition shifts dramatically depending on the night and which level is activated; a theater audience on a Thursday reads differently from a techno club crowd on a Saturday. Drink prices run moderate, positioning the venue as accessible rather than premium.

What to Expect

A three-level venue where the atmosphere changes depending on which floor you're on. Expect theater audiences on some nights, club crowds on others, and a ground-floor bar that bridges both.

Atmosphere

Layered, cultural, and adaptable. A venue that works as theater, club, or bar depending on when you visit.

Music

Techno, tech-house, hip-hop, R&B, themed programming on main floor; live DJ and electronic on special nights; cabaret and theater music in upper venue

Dress Code

Casual to smart-casual, depending on the night. Club nights accept casual; theater shows prefer slight dress-up.

Best For

Travelers wanting a cultural-plus-nightlife combined evening, theater fans, groups looking for programming variety

Payment

Cards accepted for tickets and bar, cash also fine

Price Range

Entry 8-15 EUR for club nights (theater tickets separate, 10-20 EUR), beer 4-6 EUR, cocktails 9-12 EUR, spirits 7-9 EUR

Entry ~$8.50-16, beer ~$4.50-6.50, cocktails ~$10-13

Hours

Theater shows 21:00-23:00 on programmed nights; club and bar 22:00-04:00 Thursday-Saturday, later on Friday and Saturday

Insider Tip

Check the theater schedule on the venue website before visiting; attending a cabaret or alternative theater show followed by the club downstairs works as a single coherent evening. Arrive early on club nights if you want to explore all three levels; the ground-floor bar and upper theater both close their doors during the peak club hours. Prices vary by night; weekends with international DJ bookings cost more than standard programming.

Full Review

Faust makes the multi-level format work by committing to each floor as its own space rather than bleeding programming across zones. On a Friday night visit, I arrived around 21:30 for a scheduled cabaret show in the upper theater, which ran a 90-minute program of burlesque, drag, and comedy acts to a seated audience of about 80 people. The theater is genuinely built for performance: raised stage, proper lighting rig, tiered seating, and a small bar serving drinks throughout the show.

After the performance ended at 23:00, the audience flowed downstairs to the main floor which was transitioning from its earlier bar mode into full club operation. The resident DJ was working a techno set with dense programming, and the room that had been half-empty an hour earlier had filled to capacity. The sound system on the main floor is better than the ground-floor bar suggests from street level; volume and bass response are both serious.

The ground-floor bar functions as a low-commitment entry point. On nights without major club programming, it operates as a standard Psyrri bar with casual crowds and conversation-friendly volume. On busy club nights, the ground floor remains accessible for people taking breaks from the upstairs floor, though it fills with overflow crowds waiting for table service or coat check.

Against other Athens multi-purpose venues like Six d.o.g.s. or Bios, Faust runs the most traditional nightlife programming. Six d.o.g.s. leans heavier on gallery and arts programming, Bios runs more experimental across music and visual arts. Faust commits to mainstream alternative theater and functional club programming, which produces a more accessible experience for travelers without a specific cultural agenda.

The pricing structure works well for visitors who want to attend a show and continue into the club; a single evening can run theater plus club with a coordinated pricing model that avoids paying two full entrances.

Exits after 04:00 on weekends can be slow since the surrounding streets empty at similar hours, though the central Psyrri location means taxis and rideshare options remain available.
