Kremlino

Metaxourgeio, Athens

Kremlino runs from a late-night basement space near Omonia Square on the edge of Metaxourgeio, programming electronic music Thursday through Saturday with occasional special events on Wednesday and Sunday. The venue operates across two rooms with separate sound systems: the main floor runs house, tech-house, and progressive, while a smaller secondary room handles ambient, experimental, and more abstract electronic programming. The interior design runs minimal, with dark walls, exposed concrete, and lighting limited to strategic rigs above the dance floors rather than decorative fixtures throughout. Capacity across both rooms sits around 300 people at a comfortable density, with the main room holding the bulk of the floor and the secondary space functioning as a contemplative alternative for people taking a break from the primary set. Programming draws both resident DJs from the Athens underground circuit and international bookings that tour through Southern Europe, and the venue has established itself over the past several years as one of the more credible late-night electronic destinations in central Athens. The crowd skews 24 to 36, with strong representation from the Athens electronic music community and a smaller international contingent. Drink prices run reasonable by club standards.

What to Expect

Two distinct sonic environments under one roof, with the freedom to move between a harder main-floor energy and a more experimental secondary space. Expect serious sound, focused crowds, and sets that run long.

Atmosphere

Dark, layered, and music-focused. A club that splits its identity across two genuinely different experiences in the same building.

Music

House, tech-house, and progressive on main floor; ambient, experimental electronic, and leftfield on secondary floor

Dress Code

Casual to underground. Black clothing, functional shoes, streetwear fit; formal wear is out of place.

Best For

Electronic music enthusiasts, late-night dancers, travelers following underground programming

Payment

Cash for entry, cards accepted at the bar inside

Price Range

Entry 10-15 EUR (varies by lineup), beer 5-7 EUR, spirits 8-10 EUR, cocktails 10-12 EUR

Entry ~$11-16, beer ~$5.50-7.50, spirits ~$8.50-11

Hours

Thursday-Saturday 00:30-07:00, occasional Wednesday and Sunday special events

Insider Tip

Arrive after 02:30; the room doesn't fill meaningfully before then and you'll feel out of rhythm. Explore both rooms; the secondary space often has the more interesting programming on a given night. Check the flyer for the full weekend lineup before committing to a specific date.

Full Review

The entrance to Kremlino sits on a relatively quiet stretch near Omonia, and the area feels less activated than Gazi even on peak weekend nights. The queue forms tightly against the building wall with door staff who work efficiently rather than selectively. Once inside, a coat check and short corridor lead to a junction point where signage directs you to either main room or the alternate space.

I visited on a Saturday in late autumn, arriving around 03:00 when the main room was at peak density. The resident was deep into a tech-house set with solid programming that mixed new releases with older staples, and the sound system was holding up through heavy bass without distortion. Moving into the secondary room was a deliberate atmospheric shift: lower volume, slower tempo, and a smaller crowd sitting or standing in looser configurations rather than dance-facing toward a booth.

The bar service runs efficient in both rooms. Drink prices track reasonable by Athens club standards, and the cocktail menu is functional rather than creative, which matches the venue's focus on music over hospitality theatrics. Bathrooms are adequate but not spacious.

Compared to other credible Athens underground clubs like Six Dogs or Ghost House, Kremlino offers a broader experience in a single building. Where Ghost House commits fully to a single sonic lane, Kremlino's dual-room format gives you options across the night. The trade-off is that neither room hits the focused intensity of a single-floor venue. For travelers who want a longer club night with natural variation, Kremlino is the better choice. For a single-focus techno session, Ghost House wins.

The post-club exit routes from Metaxourgeio at 06:00 or later work differently than Gazi. Omonia metro reopens early, taxis are accessible though scarce right at closing, and the walk back to central areas like Syntagma takes about 20 minutes if the weather is reasonable.

The Neighborhood

Kremlino sits near the edge of Metaxourgeio close to Omonia Square, one of Athens' oldest public squares and a crossroads for the metro, bus, and trolley networks. The surrounding streets include a mix of late-night eateries, migrant-run shops, and increasingly residential-focused conversions as the neighborhood gentrifies.

Getting There

Metro Line 1 (green) or Line 2 (red) to Omonia station, then a four to seven minute walk. Metro does not run overnight; plan exit by taxi or early morning trains after 05:30.
