Gazarte has been doing the multi-purpose venue thing since before it was fashionable. The building itself is a former silk factory, and the renovation kept enough industrial character to feel authentic without being uncomfortable. Each floor operates almost as a separate venue, which means you can shift your evening's mood by simply taking the stairs.
The rooftop is the star. On a clear night with the Acropolis lit up across the skyline, it's one of the best free views in Athens. The cinema screenings add another layer, showing art-house films and Greek classics with English subtitles while you drink cocktails. The sound setup for film nights is surprisingly good. Cocktails up here are competently made if not groundbreaking, and priced in line with the location.
Downstairs, the live music programming is thoughtful. They book a range of Greek acts that you won't find at tourist-oriented venues, plus occasional international names that draw a more committed music crowd. The sound system handles everything from acoustic sets to full-band rock shows without distortion. The restaurant serves food that's a step above bar snacks, with grilled meats and seafood done in modern Greek style.
The main drawback is crowd management on peak summer weekends. The rooftop reaches capacity and the door staff can be slow to communicate wait times. Getting there early solves this problem entirely.
The Neighborhood
Gazarte sits on Voutadon Street, one of the main arteries of the Gazi district. The surrounding blocks are packed with bars, clubs, and restaurants that feed off the foot traffic from the Technopolis cultural center across the street. This is ground zero for Athens nightlife, and Gazarte is one of the few venues that predates the neighborhood's full transformation.
Getting There
Metro Line 3 (Blue) to Kerameikos station puts you a 5-minute walk away. Exit toward Pireos Street and walk south along Voutadon. Taxis from Syntagma Square take about 10 minutes. Street parking is nearly impossible on weekends.
