A Liar Man gets a lot right. The rooftop position delivers on its main promise, which is an Acropolis view that doesn't require fighting through crowds at a tourist trap. The terrace is small enough to feel intimate but large enough that you don't feel crammed in. Plants and warm lighting soften the edges and create pockets of privacy even when the place is full.
The cocktail program is where this bar separates itself from the other rooftop spots in the area. The bartenders clearly know their craft, and the use of Greek spirits as base ingredients rather than novelty additions gives the drinks a sense of place. A mastiha sour I tried was balanced and refreshing without the cloying sweetness that mastiha cocktails sometimes carry. Prices are fair for the quality and location.
Service runs smoothly on weeknights but can slow down on packed summer weekends. The staff handles the pressure well and stays friendly even when stretched. The sharing plates are competent accompaniments to drinks rather than destination food, which is exactly what they should be at a cocktail bar.
The only real downside is availability. This is a known spot now, and getting a table without a reservation on Friday or Saturday during peak season is a gamble you'll probably lose. Book ahead and you'll have a great evening.
