Roof Garden Bar
Roof Garden Bar at 25is Avgoustou 7 is a rooftop terrace bar overlooking the Venetian fortress (Koules) and Heraklion's old harbor. The venue operates during summer months only, typically May through October, and draws a steady crowd for its views and open-air setting. Cocktails run EUR 8 to 12, beer is EUR 5 to 7, and wine by the glass is EUR 6 to 9. The drink quality is competent but the view is the real product. The fortress lit up at night with the harbor waters below creates a distinctive backdrop that the ground-level bars can't match. The terrace has a mix of table seating and lounge-style arrangements, with about 60 seats total. No cover charge. The crowd is mixed, with tourists and locals in roughly equal measure during peak season. The rooftop gets busy after 10 PM and stays active until closing around 2 AM. A light menu of bar snacks and sharing plates runs EUR 5 to 10. Service can be slow during the busiest hours but the staff is friendly. Wind can be a factor on the exposed rooftop, so a light jacket is worth carrying.

Full Review
Roof Garden Bar trades on its location, and the location delivers. The Venetian fortress of Koules is one of Heraklion's most impressive landmarks, and seeing it lit up at night from a rooftop bar with a cocktail in hand is a specific pleasure that the city's street-level venues can't offer. The harbor beyond adds depth to the panorama, with occasional boats adding movement to the scene.
The drinks are acceptable without being memorable. Cocktails follow standard recipes and are mixed competently. The wine selection includes some decent Cretan options. This is a venue where you're paying for the view premium, and the drinks exist to accompany the setting rather than stand on their own. If cocktail quality is your priority, start at Bitters or Fix and come here second.
The terrace layout works well, with enough spacing between tables to maintain conversation privacy despite the open-air arrangement. The lounge seating toward the back is more comfortable for extended stays, while the table seating near the edge gets the best views. Wind can be a real factor, especially later in the evening, so dress accordingly.
Roof Garden Bar is best experienced as one stop in an evening rather than the whole evening. An hour or two here around sunset, followed by moving down to the old town's bar streets, gives you the best of Heraklion's nightlife geography. Trying to spend an entire evening here risks diminishing returns on the view and exposes the drinks' limitations.
The Neighborhood
The bar sits on 25is Avgoustou, the main street connecting Lions Square to the harbor and fortress. It's in the commercial and tourist heart of Heraklion, with restaurants, shops, and other bars within immediate walking distance. The harbor promenade is steps away.
Getting There
From Lions Square, walk north on 25is Avgoustou toward the harbor. The bar's building is on the left side of the street. From the port, it's a 5-minute walk along the waterfront. Look for the building entrance and signage directing you upstairs.
