Castle Bar
Castle Bar is built into the old city walls of Kaleici, Antalya's historic quarter, with an open-air terrace that looks directly over the old harbor and the Mediterranean beyond. The bar occupies multiple levels carved into the ancient stone, creating a series of intimate seating areas connected by narrow staircases. Live music runs most nights from May through October, covering Turkish pop, rock, and acoustic sets. The sound carries well across the terraces without being overwhelming. Beer costs TRY 100-150 (EUR 2.50-4), cocktails TRY 200-350 (EUR 5-9). Wine starts around TRY 150 (EUR 4) for Turkish labels. The crowd mixes tourists exploring Kaleici with local regulars who come for the music. Summer weekends get packed by 10 PM, so arriving early secures the best terrace seats with harbor views. The bar stays open until 2 AM most nights, later on weekends. Food is limited to bar snacks and simple plates. Staff speak decent English and are used to international visitors. The setting is genuinely special, drinking a cold Efes while looking out over a Roman harbor doesn't get old.

Full Review
Castle Bar earns its reputation through location alone, but the execution is solid too. I climbed the worn stone steps through a gap in the old city walls and emerged onto a multi-level terrace overlooking the harbor. The sunset view across the Mediterranean was the kind of thing that makes you stop mid-sentence. An Efes cost TRY 120 and a gin and tonic ran TRY 250, reasonable for the setting.
The live music started around 9 PM. A solo guitarist worked through Turkish ballads and a few international covers, keeping the volume at a level where conversation was still possible. The crowd was a mix of European tourists, Turkish couples from out of town, and a few locals who clearly had their regular spots. No one was rushing.
Seating is scattered across several stone terraces connected by narrow stairs. The highest level offers the best panorama but fills up first. Lower levels feel more intimate, tucked into alcoves in the ancient walls. The whole structure has been adapted from the original fortifications, which gives it character that purpose-built rooftop bars can't match.
Service was attentive without hovering. A waiter checked in twice during an hour without being asked. The bar menu is straightforward: local beer, basic cocktails, Turkish wine. Don't expect craft mixology. That's not what this place is about.
The Neighborhood
Castle Bar sits on the western edge of Kaleici, integrated into the old city walls that once defended Antalya's harbor. The surrounding streets are packed with boutique hotels, restaurants, and shops catering to the tourist trade. It's a 5-minute walk from the main gate into the old town.
Getting There
Walk into Kaleici through the Hadrian's Gate entrance and head west toward the harbor. Castle Bar is built into the walls on the western side, about a 10-minute walk. From outside the old town, the Antalya tram stops at Ismetpasa, a 5-minute walk to Kaleici's entrance.
