Why Not
Why Not operates as a bar on Piața Unirii, Timișoara's main historic square. The location is its primary asset: outdoor seating on the square during spring through autumn positions it as both a people-watching spot and a natural pre-club gathering point. The interior is comfortable and divided into distinct seating areas rather than one open room, which means it functions at various crowd sizes without feeling empty or overwhelmed. The drink selection is standard Romanian bar range: local beers on tap, basic spirits, and a cocktail menu that covers the classics without anything particularly creative. Service is efficient in the evening hours when the square is busy. The bar draws a mix of locals, students, and visitors, reflecting the square's own mixed demographics.

Insider Tip

Full Review
Why Not is the bar that everyone knows in Timișoara because of where it sits. Piața Unirii is the city's most photogenic square: two cathedral facades facing each other across a clean, wide space. Sitting at a terrace table with a beer while the cathedrals catch the evening light is a legitimately good way to spend 45 minutes.
The bar itself is functional rather than special. Beer comes in at 12-18 RON for local options, a bit more for imports. Cocktails are priced around 25-38 RON and made competently. The wine selection covers Romanian and international options at accessible prices.
Inside, the space divides into sections with different seating configurations. The front section has a view of the square through large windows. The back section is quieter and better for longer conversations. The staff move efficiently during busy periods without being rushed.
The pre-club function is real. Groups consistently use Why Not as a meeting point from 9 PM to 11 PM before moving to Daos or Heaven Studio. The location means you can sit here and decide where to go based on who you meet and what you overhear. On summer Fridays, the terrace starts filling before 8 PM.
For a first drink on arrival in Timișoara, or for a last drink winding down before heading back, the square location makes this the natural default.
