Tucano Coffee
Tucano Coffee sits in a courtyard off Bulevardul Ștefan cel Mare, one of Iași's main thoroughfares, and operates across the day-to-night spectrum in a way that few venues in the center manage well. The morning and afternoon function is specialty coffee in a sheltered outdoor courtyard with indoor seating for rainy days. The evening function, from around 6 PM onward, is cocktails, wine, and beer in the same courtyard with heaters when the temperature drops. The transition is gradual rather than abrupt. Laptop workers giving way to cocktail drinkers over the course of the hour between 5 and 6 PM is the norm. The courtyard is the main draw: walled on three sides, with the fourth opening to the boulevard, it insulates from street traffic while remaining visually connected to the city. Cocktails run 20-30 RON, specialty coffee 10-18 RON. Beer and wine are available at 10-14 RON and 15-25 RON respectively. The crowd runs from mid-20s to mid-30s and includes a mix of professionals, creative workers, and travelers who appreciate the daytime-to-evening flexibility.

Insider Tip
The courtyard is the place to be from April through October. In colder months, arrive early to claim one of the heated outdoor spots before they fill, or go for the indoor alternative. The filter coffee is better than most places in Iași. Evening cocktails improve after 7 PM when the barista shifts to bar mode.
Full Review
Tucano Coffee's courtyard is the practical reason to visit. Iași's center has limited dedicated outdoor drinking space, and the walled courtyard here provides shelter from boulevard traffic while remaining open-air. On an October evening before the weather turns cold, it's one of the better outdoor spots in the city.
The coffee program runs V60, Chemex, and espresso-based drinks from rotating single-origin roasts. Prices at 10-18 RON sit above the street average but within the specialty coffee range that has become standard in Romanian university cities over the past five years. The quality justifies the price.
The evening transition starts organically around 5-6 PM as the post-work and post-class crowd replaces the laptop users. The same courtyard tables serve both purposes; the staff shifts between coffee and cocktail mode fluidly. Cocktails at 20-30 RON are competent rather than creative, covering the standard menu with a few house additions.
Tucano does not have the personality depth of Roots Cafe or the live music draw of Acaju. It fills a different role: the reliable all-day space that handles multiple functions without specializing in any of them. This is more useful than it sounds in a city where the options are limited.
