Pub Hardway
Pub Hardway on Strada Toma Cozma is the most reliable student bar in the Copou district and one of the few Iași venues that functions well across the week rather than concentrating everything on Friday and Saturday. The formula is straightforward: cheap beer, rock music, small tables arranged for groups and overflow, and a crowd that's been coming since their first week at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University. The interior runs single-floor with a bar at one end, exposed brick walls covered in band posters and memorabilia, and enough seating for around 80 people comfortably and 120 at peak. Beer runs 8-12 RON for standard options and 13-18 RON for craft selections. Cocktails are secondary at 16-25 RON. No entry fee, no dress code, no pretension. The bar staff move quickly on busy nights and are friendly in the way that comes from years of managing the same crowd. Pub Hardway reaches capacity on Friday and Saturday by 11 PM during term time. The Wednesday and Thursday evening scene is quieter but reliable during the academic year.

Full Review
Pub Hardway has been the default gathering point in Copou for the kind of student who prefers live music, rock, and cheap beer to the cocktail bar circuit. The venue occupies a corner space on Strada Toma Cozma, a side street off the main Copou axes, identifiable by the music audible from outside before the door is reached.
The interior is a classic rock pub: every surface carries accumulated visual noise from years of posters, stickers, and signed items from bands that have played or visited. The bar runs across one side, tables and chairs occupy the rest. The layout doesn't try to separate a dance floor from a seating area, which means the whole room functions as one social space.
Beer is the main event. Standard Romanian lagers (Ursus, Ciuc, Timișoreana) at 8-12 RON are the most popular. A rotating craft selection at 13-18 RON has improved over the past two years as the Iași craft scene has developed. Cocktails are available but secondary to the beer focus.
The crowd on a Friday night is 90% Alexandru Ioan Cuza University students and graduates who haven't left the city yet. Faculties vary: you'll find engineering students next to theology students next to music students, which creates a social mix that the more specialized venues don't produce. English works with most people under 25; some effort may be needed with the harder-core regulars.
Pub Hardway is at its best on a cold November Friday when the room is packed, the music is loud, and the beer is cheap. It's at its worst on a Wednesday in July when the students are home. The venue's fortunes track the academic calendar precisely.
