Pygmalion
Pygmalion is an Irish pub transplanted to the Clausen valley, with a twist: the large outdoor terrace overlooking the Alzette river gives it a setting that no Dublin pub can match. The interior follows Irish pub conventions with dark wood, Guinness taps, and rugby memorabilia, but the real business happens outside. The terrace, which extends along the riverbank, holds as many people as the inside and provides one of the best outdoor drinking spots in Luxembourg City. Live music nights, typically on Fridays and Saturdays, bring acoustic acts, cover bands, and occasional traditional Irish sessions. The crowd mixes Irish and British expats with Luxembourgers and the broader international community. Quiz nights, sports screenings, and seasonal events keep the calendar full. The food menu is pub-standard with an Irish accent: shepherd's pie, fish and chips, and Sunday roasts.

Full Review
Pygmalion succeeds because it combines two things that shouldn't work together: the Irish pub formula and the Luxembourg City landscape. The result is a venue where you can drink a pint of Guinness on a terrace overlooking a medieval river valley, which is an experience that neither Ireland nor Luxembourg could produce on its own.
The terrace is the headline. In summer, when the weather cooperates, sitting outside with a drink while the Alzette flows below and the Bock Casemates loom above is genuinely special. The setting elevates what would otherwise be a standard expat pub into something worth seeking out.
Inside, the Irish pub elements are executed faithfully. The Guinness pours well, the pub food is hearty if predictable, and the sports screenings draw the expected crowds. The live music on weekends ranges from capable cover bands to surprisingly good acoustic acts. The quiz night is well-organized and competitive, drawing teams of regulars who take it seriously.
The crowd is international in the way that Luxembourg demands. Irish and British expats form the core, but French, Portuguese, German, and Luxembourgish regulars fill the gaps. The social atmosphere is easy and welcoming, with the pub's role as a community space trumping any exclusivity.
Pygmalion works less well in winter, when the terrace closes and the venue shrinks to its interior. It's still a decent pub, but without the terrace, it loses its unique selling point. Plan your visit for warmer months if possible.
