Hoxton Athens
Hoxton Athens sits on Voutadon Street in the heart of Gazi, occupying two floors of a converted industrial building that keeps the raw materials exposed throughout. The ground floor holds the main bar with a long zinc counter, concrete flooring, and metal fixtures that match the district's gasworks heritage. A mezzanine level wraps around one side of the main room, providing seated overlooks onto the street entrance and the bar below, and an outdoor spillover area that fills on warmer evenings. The venue functions primarily as a pre-club bar, drawing crowds between 21:00 and 01:00 before many of its customers move on to the clubs further down the Gazi strip. Programming leans toward funk, soul, and hip-hop across the sound system, with occasional live DJs on Friday and Saturday nights pushing the tempo up as the night progresses. The drinks list covers beer from Greek craft breweries alongside standard commercial labels, a solid cocktail selection at fair prices, and shots that move quickly once the room fills. Food service is limited to bar snacks and sharing plates. The crowd skews 24 to 38, mixing local regulars with visitors staying in nearby hotels, and the atmosphere remains approachable without sliding into tourist-bar territory.

Funk, soul, hip-hop, and disco; Friday and Saturday DJs often layer in house and nu-disco later

Insider Tip
Grab the mezzanine seating early if you want a base for the night; the ground floor runs standing room only after 22:30. Ask about Greek craft beer rotation; the selection changes regularly and the bartenders know their stock. Start your night here and move onto a club by midnight if you want to catch Gazi's second wave.
Full Review
Hoxton occupies a corner footprint on Voutadon that makes it visible from a block away, and the open-fronted design in warmer months blurs the line between inside and outside. Stepping in from the street, the zinc-topped bar runs along the right wall for most of the room's length, backed by tiered bottle shelving and a chalkboard listing the current craft beer rotation. The mezzanine climbs from the rear of the ground floor up a metal staircase, with a waist-high rail that keeps sightlines clear down to the bar action.
I spent a Thursday evening there in late April, arriving around 21:30 when the room was about a third full and the resident DJ was working through a soul and early hip-hop set. Service at the bar was fast even as the crowd built; the staff-to-counter ratio is higher than most Gazi bars manage, and orders cleared within two minutes even at peak. Cocktails came properly measured and garnished, the Negroni was properly diluted, and the mezcal sour was balanced rather than the sugary default that happens at volume-focused venues.
Compared to neighboring options like The Clumsies across the river in Psyri, Hoxton pitches itself lower on ambition and higher on accessibility. Clumsies runs as a serious cocktail destination; Hoxton functions as a social bar where the drinks are solid but the atmosphere is the product. Against other Gazi spots like TrabaLa or the surrounding club-warmup bars, Hoxton wins on space, sound, and a better cocktail program than the usual pre-club fare.
The transition point from bar to late-night crowd happens around midnight when the mezzanine empties out and the ground floor turns denser. If you want conversation, come before 22:30. If you want energy, stay past midnight and watch the room shift.
