Yangon Yangon Rooftop Bar

Inya Lake Area, Yangon

Yangon Yangon occupies the rooftop of the 20-story Sakura Tower in downtown Yangon, technically outside the Inya Lake area but serving a similar upscale crowd and often grouped with the hotel bar circuit. The bar offers 360-degree views of the city from its open-air terrace, with Shwedagon Pagoda, Sule Pagoda, the Yangon River, and the sprawling low-rise cityscape all visible depending on where you sit. The space is divided between an indoor lounge with full air conditioning and the wraparound outdoor terrace. Capacity is around 100 guests across both zones. The cocktail menu is Yangon's most ambitious, with seasonal drinks, a spirits list that includes premium options, and bar food designed to pair with drinks. Live music or DJ sets happen on weekend evenings. The crowd is the most diverse of any upscale venue in the city: tourists, expats, diplomats, and Burmese professionals who want to celebrate somewhere special. Yangon Yangon has been a fixture since the Sakura Tower opened and remains the city's most recognized rooftop bar.

What to Expect

The elevator ride to the 20th floor ends with doors opening onto a panorama of Yangon spread out in every direction. On a clear evening, the golden pagodas catch the last light while the city below transitions to a grid of streetlights and headlights. The first impression is powerful. Then you notice the stylish furnishings, the well-stocked bar, and the mix of people around you, and you realize this is the most cosmopolitan space in Myanmar.

Sophisticated and celebratory. The kind of place where people raise glasses to the view and mean it.

Smart casual to dressy. This is where Yangon dresses up. Clean shoes, collared shirt minimum for men.

Full Review

Yangon Yangon has earned its status as the city's premier rooftop bar through a combination of an unbeatable location and consistent execution. The Sakura Tower's height gives it views that no competitor can match, and the bar has been smart about maintaining quality rather than coasting on scenery.

The outdoor terrace is the obvious draw. Tables along the railing offer direct sightlines to Shwedagon Pagoda, and the sunset from this vantage point is Yangon at its most beautiful. The wraparound design means every seat has some version of the view. Wind can be an issue at this height, so keep napkins and lightweight items secured.

Inside, the lounge is properly air-conditioned and furnished with comfortable seating that encourages lingering. The bar counter here is where the serious cocktail work happens. The bartenders have training that shows in the details: proper dilution, fresh garnishes, correct glassware. The seasonal menu changes every few months and usually includes at least one genuinely creative option.

Weekend evenings attract the largest crowds. Live music adds energy without overwhelming conversation. The mix of Burmese and international guests creates an atmosphere that's unique in Yangon, a place where the city's different communities overlap. Service stays professional even when busy, though wait times for drinks naturally increase.

Pricing is at the top of Yangon's range, which still translates to remarkably affordable by international rooftop bar standards. A cocktail at 15,000 MMK costs about what you'd pay for a mediocre beer at a London pub. The value is exceptional.

The limitation is the closing time. Like everywhere in Yangon, curfew constraints mean the evening ends before midnight. Plan to arrive by 5:00 PM for sunset and you'll get a solid five to six hours of drinking with views, which is more than enough.

The Neighborhood

Sakura Tower sits at the intersection of Sule Pagoda Road and Bogyoke Aung San Road in downtown Yangon, technically outside the Inya Lake area but serving a similar crowd. Sule Pagoda is visible from the terrace. The surrounding downtown blocks have restaurants and bars at street level.

Getting There

Sakura Tower is in central downtown, walkable from Sule Pagoda in 5 minutes. Taxis from the Inya Lake area cost 5,000-7,000 MMK. Enter the tower through the main lobby and take the elevator to the 20th floor.
