Loft Bistro & Bar
Loft Bistro and Bar occupies an upscale space near Inya Lake that draws Yangon's diplomatic community, business travelers, and well-off locals. The interior is modern and air-conditioned, with a bar area, dining tables, and lounge seating arranged across a two-level layout. Exposed brick walls, pendant lighting, and a curated wine list set it apart from most Yangon drinking establishments. The cocktail menu runs to about 20 options, mixing international classics with drinks using local ingredients like pickled tea leaf and tamarind. The kitchen produces both Western and Southeast Asian dishes at a standard well above typical Yangon restaurants. The wine selection includes bottles from Australia, Chile, and France, which is unusual for Myanmar where wine imports are erratic. Capacity is around 60 people, and the room feels intimate without being cramped. On weekday evenings, the crowd is dominated by embassy staff and international organization employees. Weekends bring a broader mix including Burmese professionals and visiting business people.
What to Expect

It's comfortable and polished without being stuffy.
Polished, conversational, and quietly cosmopolitan. A sanctuary from the city outside.
Background jazz, soul, and lounge music. Never loud enough to interfere with conversation.
Smart casual. Most patrons come from office jobs and are dressed accordingly. A clean shirt and trousers fit right in.

The pickled tea leaf cocktail is unique to this bar and worth trying once. Reservations help on Friday evenings when the diplomatic crowd fills the place. The upstairs lounge area is quieter than the ground floor bar.
Full Review
Loft Bistro and Bar operates in a different category from the rest of Yangon's drinking scene. While the beer stations and backpacker bars serve their purpose well, Loft aims higher and delivers. The cocktail program shows genuine thought, with properly balanced drinks that use fresh ingredients and appropriate glassware. The bartender knows what they're doing, which is not something you can assume in Yangon.
The space is well designed. The ground floor bar area creates a social atmosphere where solo drinkers can sit comfortably and naturally strike up conversations with neighbors. The upstairs lounge has more private seating for groups and couples. Both levels maintain the same quality of service and the same drink menu.
The wine list is Loft's quiet achievement. In a country where wine imports face unpredictable customs delays and temperature-controlled storage is rare, maintaining a drinkable selection takes real effort. Prices reflect the difficulty, but a glass of Australian Shiraz at 12,000 MMK ($3.40 USD) is hard to argue with.
The food competes with standalone restaurants in Yangon. The kitchen handles both Western and local dishes competently, and portion sizes justify the prices. The beef salad and the grilled fish are consistently recommended by regulars.
The crowd can feel insular. If you're not connected to the diplomatic or NGO community, you might feel like an outsider initially. But the staff are welcoming, and sitting at the bar rather than a table makes it easy to integrate. After one or two visits, faces start to become familiar.
