Novotel Yangon Max Sky Bar

Inya Lake Area, Yangon

The Sky Bar at Novotel Yangon Max sits on the rooftop of the Novotel hotel and delivers the best panoramic views of any bar in the city. The terrace wraps around the building's top floor with unobstructed sightlines toward Shwedagon Pagoda to the south, the glittering gold dome dominating the skyline as the sun drops. The bar itself is open-air with a covered section for rain protection, furnished with lounge chairs, high tables, and a long bar counter. Capacity is around 80 to 100 guests, and the space never feels overcrowded even on busy evenings because of the generous layout. The drink menu focuses on cocktails with a tropical lean, alongside a full beer and spirits selection. Prices are hotel-tier for Yangon, which means still cheap by any international measure. The crowd mixes hotel guests with Yangon residents celebrating special occasions, visiting business people, and the occasional diplomat. Sunset hour draws the biggest crowds, and the transition from daylight to the illuminated Shwedagon Pagoda is a genuine spectacle.

What to Expect

The elevator opens onto an outdoor terrace with a wall of sky and the Shwedagon Pagoda glowing gold in the distance. The air is warm but usually catches a breeze at this height. Staff seat you promptly and take your order. The first sip of a cold drink while watching the sun set behind Southeast Asia's most famous pagoda is one of Yangon's best moments.

Elevated, literally and figuratively. Relaxed but polished, with the golden pagoda as a backdrop.

Full Review

Novotel Yangon Max Sky Bar trades on one asset above all others: the view. And it's a legitimate asset. Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most visually striking religious monuments in Asia, and seeing it from rooftop elevation while the sky turns orange and then dark is genuinely memorable.

The bar itself is competently run. The cocktail menu includes about 15 options, tilted toward tropical and citrus-forward drinks that suit the outdoor setting. Execution is reliable rather than exceptional. The bartenders can make a clean mojito and a decent espresso martini, which covers most requests. Beer is served cold and the wine selection is limited but drinkable.

The physical space is well maintained. Furniture is comfortable and spaced for privacy. The covered section means rain doesn't end the evening, just shifts it under shelter. The open terrace is obviously the preferred seating, and tables with direct Pagoda views fill first.

Service follows Novotel international standards. Staff are attentive, menus arrive quickly, and bills are accurate. English proficiency among the service team is good. The hotel infrastructure means the Wi-Fi actually works, the bathrooms are clean, and there's a functioning elevator rather than a steep staircase.

This isn't a place for a wild night out. It's a sophisticated hour or two of drinks with exceptional scenery. Most visitors pair it with dinner elsewhere and then move on, though on a perfect evening you might find yourself staying longer than planned.

The Neighborhood

The Novotel Yangon Max is in the Inya Lake district, surrounded by other international hotels and institutional buildings. The hotel itself has restaurants and a lobby bar if you want to continue the evening indoors. Nearby Sedona Hotel and Chatrium Hotel offer alternative bars.

Getting There

Taxi from downtown costs 5,000-8,000 MMK. Enter through the Novotel hotel lobby and take the elevator to the top floor. The hotel is well known to taxi drivers.
