Boteco do Caranguejo
Boteco do Caranguejo is a beachfront seafood and crab boteco on Avenida Oceânica with sidewalk tables that fill nightly. The space combines a small indoor seating area with a long stretch of sidewalk tables looking out across the avenue toward the Atlantic. The kitchen runs heavy on crab dishes (signature crab moqueca, crab boards), grilled fish, and Bahian seafood standards alongside the strong caipirinha program. Pricing sits mid-range for Barra: beer R$12-18, caipirinhas R$22-32, mains R$45-90, crab boards R$95-180. The crowd is mixed Brazilian-foreign with a heavy local-regulars contingent from the Avenida Oceânica residential blocks. No cover, no dress code beyond beach-casual.

Full Review
Boteco do Caranguejo occupies a ground-floor space along Avenida Oceânica, with a small indoor bar and dining area inside and the long stretch of sidewalk tables that defines the venue. The interior runs simple: white-tiled floor, framed beach photos, fishing nets hung from the ceiling. The sidewalk seating covers maybe 25 tables and is the prime evening location.
The crab-focused kitchen is the venue's anchor. Crab moqueca (a Bahian crab stew with coconut milk, dendê oil, and peppers) is the signature dish, served in clay pots with rice and pirão. Crab boards (a wooden platter with multiple cracked crabs, sides, and sauces) are designed for sharing across tables. Grilled fish, prawn dishes, and standard Bahian appetizers (acarajé, abará) round out the menu.
Compared to nearby Avenida Oceânica botecos (Boteco do Farias, Boteco do Farol), Boteco do Caranguejo is more specialized in crab and seafood, with the boards being the venue's most popular order. Compared to inland Barra restaurants on Rua Marquês de Leão or Rua Visconde de Itaparica, the beachfront location and the sidewalk tables justify the slightly higher prices.
The drinks program is strong on caipirinhas with multiple fruit variations (lemon, lime, passionfruit, caju cashew fruit, jabuticaba). The cocktail builds run heavy-handed; one is sufficient for most visitors. Beer pricing reflects the beachfront markup but remains reasonable. Card payments work but cash speeds bill processing significantly during peak hours.
