Boteco da Keka

4.9
(91 reviews)
Barra, Salvador

Boteco da Keka is a family-run Barra institution serving Bahian comfort food, draft beer, and a parade of long-time regulars on Avenida Oceânica. The space combines a small indoor kitchen-and-bar area with a long stretch of sidewalk tables that fill from late afternoon onwards. The kitchen runs Bahian standards (moqueca, bobó, vatapá, caruru, acarajé) at moderate prices alongside the chopp draft beer program. Pricing is moderate: beer R$10-15, caipirinhas R$18-28, mains R$40-85. The crowd is heavy on long-time residents, returning seasonal visitors, and Brazilian tourists who treat Keka as the classic Barra anchor. The kitchen runs late, with food orders accepted past midnight on weekends.

Full Review

Boteco da Keka sits on Avenida Oceânica in a ground-floor space with a small kitchen-and-bar area inside and the long stretch of sidewalk tables along the building's frontage. The interior is unfussy: tile floor, white walls, framed family photos behind the bar, and the kitchen visible through a pass window. Capacity sits around 70 between indoor and outdoor.

The Bahian kitchen is the venue's anchor. Moqueca de peixe and moqueca de camarão are the signature dishes at R$140-180 for two, served in clay pots with rice, farofa, and pirão. Bobó de camarão, vatapá, caruru, and Bahian appetizers (acarajé, abará, bolinho de bacalhau) fill out the menu. Execution is consistent with the staff cooking the regional dishes the way regulars expect.

Compared to the other Avenida Oceânica botecos (Farias, Farol, Caranguejo), Keka is the most family-run in feel and pulls a more consistently local crowd. The neighborhood-anchor character is real; many customers have been visiting for years and the family management runs the venue with a long-term-relationship pace rather than a tourist-turnover model.

Drinks pricing is moderate. The chopp draft beer is the venue's reliable order; the caipirinhas are well-built with proper cane sugar. The cocktail menu is limited beyond standard caipirinhas. Service is unhurried but attentive once an order is placed; expect 30-35 minutes for the moqueca, less for grilled plates. Cash speeds bill processing significantly during peak.

The Neighborhood

Boteco da Keka sits on Avenida Oceânica in the central Barra beachfront cluster. Boteco do Farias is two minutes north; Boteco do Caranguejo is five minutes north. The Farol da Barra lighthouse is five minutes south.

Getting There

Uber from Pelourinho R$25-40 and 15 minutes. From Rio Vermelho R$15-25 and 10-15 minutes. Walking along Avenida Oceânica from any nearby beachfront point.
