The entrance on Frith Street is easy to miss if you're not looking. A narrow staircase takes you down into the main room, which opens up wider than you'd expect from the street-level frontage. Tables are packed close together, which creates an intimacy that works in the club's favor. You're close to your neighbors and close to the stage.
The main evening shows feature internationally recognized artists. Programming runs the full spectrum of jazz, from traditional to contemporary, with occasional detours into soul and blues. Sound quality is consistently good. The house system is tuned for the room, and the engineers know how to balance acoustic and amplified instruments in a space this size.
The Late Late Show is the better-kept secret. After the headline act clears, the room resets for a more relaxed session. House musicians take the stage and guest players sit in. The music shifts toward funk, soul, and danceable jazz. The crowd changes too, skewing younger and more casual. At GBP 12-15 entry, it's one of the best-value nights out in Soho.
Food is serviceable but not the reason to come. The burgers and sharing plates work as a meal before the show. Cocktails are well-made and priced at Soho standard. Service is attentive without being intrusive during performances.
The only real drawback is the pillar situation. A few seats have partially obstructed views, and these aren't always flagged when booking. If view matters to you, call ahead and specify.
