Caravan Bar

Nimman, Chiang Mai

Caravan Bar runs one of the strongest cocktail programs in Chiang Mai from a small space on Nimmanhaemin Soi 9, with a vintage-red interior, gin-focused menu, and dedicated bartenders who know their craft. The room is intimate: 35-40 seats split between the bar, a few low tables, and a small outdoor patio. The cocktail menu rotates seasonally and runs roughly 280-380 THB per drink, with classic builds (Negroni, Old Fashioned, Daiquiri) alongside house originals using Thai ingredients. Music stays low-volume deep house and lo-fi, with the room built for conversation over dancing. The crowd is mixed Thai professional and international visitor, dressed-up on weekends, with a noticeable proportion of return regulars. Reservations help on Friday and Saturday nights.

Full Review

Caravan Bar sits in a small ground-floor space on Nimmanhaemin Soi 9 with a discreet entrance and a vintage-red painted interior. The room is small: a curved bar with eight stools, four low tables along the wall, and a small outdoor patio with two more tables. Total capacity sits around 40, and on a busy Saturday the room feels full but never crowded.

The cocktail program is the strongest in Nimman and one of the strongest in Thailand outside Bangkok. The menu rotates seasonally and runs both classic builds (Negroni, Old Fashioned, Sazerac, Daiquiri) and house originals using local ingredients (Thai herbs, palm sugar, house-infused gins). The execution is consistent and the bartenders work each drink with care; expect three to five minutes per cocktail. The gin program is particularly strong, with several boutique distillates not commonly available elsewhere.

Compared to Continental on Soi 5, Caravan is more open and less themed, but with comparable cocktail quality. Compared to Shelby Bar on Soi 7, Caravan is more cocktail-focused and less whiskey-driven. Compared to Mixology on Arak Road, Caravan is smaller, more intimate, and more bartender-led. The pricing is similar across these four venues; Caravan and Continental sit at the top tier of Chiang Mai mixology.

Reservations help on weekends but are not required. Sit at the bar to watch the bartenders work and accept their recommendations; the menu is curated but their off-menu builds often surprise. The small plates menu is limited but pairs well with the drinks; the cheese board and the charcuterie are reliable.
