Monkey Museum
Monkey Museum is a cocktail bar and lounge on Garosu-gil, Gangnam's tree-lined fashion street in Sinsa-dong. The interior mixes art gallery aesthetics with bar functionality: original artwork on the walls, sculptural lighting fixtures, and a long bar where bartenders prepare creative cocktails using Korean and international ingredients. The atmosphere is conversational rather than party-oriented, making it one of Gangnam's better date spots.
What to Expect
A stylish but not stuffy cocktail bar where the art on the walls is genuine and the drinks are crafted with care. The crowd is couples and small groups of friends in their late twenties to thirties. The volume stays at conversation level.
Art-forward, intimate, and unhurried. The bar encourages lingering over drinks rather than quick rounds. Good lighting for conversation and people-watching.
Curated playlists: indie, jazz, chill electronic. Background volume.
Smart casual. The Garosu-gil crowd dresses well without being formal.
Date nights and small groups who want good cocktails in a visually interesting setting.
Cards and cash accepted. Kakao Pay and Samsung Pay work.

Insider Tip
Walk-ins are usually fine on weeknights. Weekend evenings fill up by 9 PM, so arrive early or expect to wait. The upstairs seating area is quieter and better for conversation. Ask about the seasonal cocktail menu, which changes monthly.
Full Review
Monkey Museum bridges the gap between Gangnam's cocktail scene and its gallery culture. The venue feels like drinking in someone's well-curated living room, if that person happened to collect contemporary Korean art and employ a talented bartender. The art rotates and the cocktail menu changes seasonally, giving regulars a reason to return.
The cocktail program is serious without being pretentious. The bartenders know their classics and can execute them cleanly, but the house originals are where the creativity shows. Korean ingredients like yuzu, makgeolli, and green tea appear in combinations that work as drinks rather than as concepts. A recent seasonal menu featured a soju-based cocktail with persimmon and ginger that was better than it had any right to be.
The Garosu-gil location puts Monkey Museum in the center of Sinsa-dong's evening scene. The street itself is pleasant for a pre-drink walk, lined with boutiques and cafes that transition to wine bars and restaurants after dark. The neighborhood attracts a more creative, less corporate crowd than central Gangnam, and the bar reflects this.
The space is divided between the ground-floor bar (busier, more social) and an upstairs lounge (quieter, more intimate). For dates, the upstairs is the better choice. For meeting new people, the bar seating downstairs puts you in conversation range of the bartenders and neighboring seats.
Pricing is moderate for Gangnam. Two people can have three cocktails each and leave having spent about 100,000 KRW, which is a fraction of what a comparable evening at a room salon or mega-club would cost. The value here is in quality and atmosphere, not volume.
