Marina

Mekong Riverfront, Vientiane

Marina is the closest thing Vientiane has to a proper nightclub. Located on the Mekong Riverfront, the venue spans two floors with a main dance area downstairs and a lounge-style upper level overlooking the action. Total capacity sits around 300 to 400 people, which makes it large by Lao standards. The ground floor features a central dance area ringed by booth seating and a long bar, with LED lighting and a sound system that the owners clearly invested in. Weekend nights bring local DJs spinning a mix of Thai pop, K-pop remixes, EDM, and Lao hip-hop. The crowd skews young and predominantly Lao, with a sprinkling of tourists who found their way off the beer-bar strip. Table service with bottle packages is the preferred mode for groups of Lao customers, and the VIP section upstairs comes with its own server. The venue has operated since the late 2010s and holds its own as Vientiane's primary dance destination.

What to Expect

Walk past a bouncer checking IDs into a dark room with colored lights and bass hitting your chest. The dance floor fills steadily from 10 PM onward. Groups of Lao friends cluster around bottle-service tables, and tourists tend to congregate near the bar. The energy builds slowly and peaks around midnight.

Atmosphere

Loud, energetic, and predominantly local. The closest thing to a Bangkok or Phnom Penh club experience you'll find in Laos.

Music

EDM, Thai pop remixes, K-pop, Lao hip-hop, with occasional reggaeton sets

Dress Code

Smart casual for locals, especially Lao men in jeans and collared shirts. Tourists get more leeway but avoid looking like you just came off a trekking tour.

Best For

Anyone wanting a proper club night in Vientiane. Groups looking for table service and bottle packages.

Payment

Cash (Lao kip) for general admission and bar orders. Some table-service packages can be paid partially by card. Bring cash to be safe.

Price Range

Beer Lao 20,000-25,000 LAK, cocktails 50,000-80,000 LAK, bottle service (whiskey) 300,000-600,000 LAK, cover 30,000-50,000 LAK on weekends

Beer ~$0.95-$1.20 / ~0.88-1.10 EUR, cocktails ~$2.40-$3.80 / ~2.20-3.50 EUR, bottle ~$14-$28.50 / ~13-26 EUR

21:00-02:00 Fri-Sat, 21:00-midnight Wed-Thu, closed Mon-Tue

Insider Tip

Arrive before 10:30 PM on Saturday to avoid the line and get a decent table. The upstairs lounge is quieter if you want to talk. Stick to Beer Lao or whiskey and soda; the cocktails are inconsistent.

Full Review

Marina occupies a purpose-built space on the riverfront with a facade that glows blue and purple at night. Inside, the ground floor opens into a wide room with the dance floor at center, booths along the walls, and a bar running the length of one side. Upstairs, a mezzanine lounge offers booth seating with a view down to the dance floor.

The crowd is overwhelmingly Lao. Groups of friends, mostly in their 20s, claim tables early and order bottle-service packages of Johnnie Walker or local Lao whiskey with mixers. Tourists make up maybe 15 to 20 percent of the room on a good night. The DJ plays to the local crowd, which means Thai pop hits, K-pop remixes, and EDM drops that keep the dance floor moving.

Service is efficient at the tables and slower at the bar. If you're ordering individual drinks, Beer Lao is the safest bet. Cocktails vary depending on who's mixing. The sound system punches well for the room size, and the lighting setup is surprisingly professional. Weekend nights genuinely feel like a club rather than a bar that turned up the volume.

For context, Marina is about as big as nightlife gets in Vientiane. Don't compare it to clubs in Bangkok or Saigon and you'll have a good time. The prices are absurdly low by international standards, the crowd is friendly, and the energy on a Saturday night is real. It fills a gap that no other venue in the city quite manages.

The Neighborhood

Sits on the Mekong Riverfront strip, roughly a 15-minute walk southeast of Nam Phu fountain along Fa Ngum Road. Other bars and food vendors line the same stretch, making it easy to bar-hop before heading to Marina for the later hours. Future nightclub is about 5 minutes away on foot.

Getting There

Tuk-tuk from central Vientiane runs 20,000 to 40,000 LAK. LOCA ride-hailing works for the trip there but can be unreliable for the return after midnight. Ask the door staff to call a tuk-tuk when you're ready to leave.
