Belváros (Pécs), Pécs

Trafik Café & Bar at Király utca 18 is a mid-format café-bar on the main pedestrian street of Pécs's Belváros. The ground-floor space holds around 35 to 40 inside seats with a café counter at the back and a more bar-oriented setup toward the front. The terrace runs four to five tables along the edge of the pedestrian street. Trafik opens early as a functioning café serving espresso, filter coffee, and pastries, and transitions into evening drink service from around 3 PM without a hard shift. The result is a venue that operates continuously across the day with different functions depending on the hour. Beer, wine, cocktails, and soft drinks all appear on the evening menu. The cocktail list runs 12 to 15 options covering classics and a few Hungarian-ingredient originals using local fruit spirits. Prices sit between Korhely's student-bar level and Korsó's wine-bar level.

Insider Tip

The café function in the morning and early afternoon is useful for a working session with good coffee. From around 5 PM, the crowd shifts toward evening drinking and the terrace fills. The cocktails using pálinka (Hungarian fruit brandy) as a base are worth trying for the local flavor. Staff speak English without difficulty.

Full Review

Trafik Café & Bar on Király utca 18 operates without a strong identity, which is either a weakness or the whole point depending on your perspective. The venue covers a lot of ground: café in the morning, lunch drinks, afternoon coffee, evening cocktails. It doesn't commit to any single mode as aggressively as Korhely commits to being a student bar or Korsó commits to being a wine bar.

The interior reflects this: clean but not minimal, warm but not designed, a café counter at the back and bar stools at the front. About 40 seats that can serve a quiet solo coffee or a group of four doing a round of cocktails with equal plausibility. The terrace catches foot traffic on Király utca's pedestrian flow.

Morning and early afternoon, the coffee is reliable and the space is useful for anyone who needs to sit and work outside their accommodation. The transition from café to bar happens gradually from around 3 PM, accelerating after 6 PM when the student-adjacent crowd starts appearing.

The cocktail menu shows some thought. The house originals use pálinka, Hungary's traditional fruit brandy, as a base in a few recipes, which produces drinks with a character that generic cocktail bars don't offer. A pálinka sour or a pálinka mule is worth trying once, even if you don't continue with them.

Prices sit at a reasonable middle point: more than Korhely, less than Korsó. On a Pécs evening, it works well as a first stop before the night moves in either direction along Király utca.

Király utca 18 is near the center of the bar-dense section of the pedestrian street, roughly equidistant from Széchenyi tér to the south and Cool Tour Café to the north.
