Korsó Wine Bar
Korsó Wine Bar at Ferencesek utcája 7 focuses on Hungarian regional wines, particularly the reds from Villány, which sits about 30 kilometers south of Pécs and produces some of the country's most recognized Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The space is small: roughly 25 seats inside across three to four tables and a small bar, with a terrace of around 20 seats on the narrow pedestrian lane outside. The wine list runs to 60 to 70 bottles with a rotating selection of eight to twelve by the glass covering both Villány reds and Szekszárd bottles from a neighboring wine region. White and rosé options include wines from Mecsek and Tokaj. Staff know the list and approach wine questions with genuine knowledge rather than sommelier performance. The food menu is minimal: cheese and charcuterie boards, nothing more. This is a wine-first venue.

Insider Tip
Ask for a Villányi Franc (the local name for Cabernet Franc from Villány) if you want a benchmark example of southern Hungarian red wine. The Attila Gere and Bock wineries are local producers regularly represented on the list. The terrace on the narrow lane is the right setting for a warm evening. Arrive before 7 PM on weekends to get a terrace table without waiting.
Full Review
Korsó Wine Bar on Ferencesek utcája 7 operates from a clear premise: if you're in southern Hungary, you should be drinking southern Hungarian wine, and you should understand what you're drinking. The venue makes that possible without being precious about it.
The setting helps. Ferencesek utcája is a narrow pedestrian lane off the main square, one of the older streets in Pécs's inner city. The stone-paved lane and the building's modest frontage create a sense of entering somewhere particular rather than somewhere generic. The interior is small and consistent with that: exposed stone, wooden furniture, wine bottles on shelves and in the cooling cabinet behind the bar.
The list centers on Villány, which is the right choice for this location. Villány reds have a specific character driven by the Mediterranean climate and the limestone and terra rossa soils of the region. Cabernet Franc from Villány is distinctly different from Loire Cab Franc or Italian versions of the same grape. The best examples from producers like Attila Gere, Bock, and Vylyan show the warm vintage conditions of southern Hungary without the jammy excess that catches up lesser producers. Korsó stocks these regularly.
By the glass, the selection covers eight to twelve options that rotate. A Szekszárd Bikavér (bull's blood blend) appears almost always. Mecsek whites show up in summer. The staff will pour you a taste before you commit if you're uncertain.
Food is limited to boards of cheese and local charcuterie. They're properly assembled and priced fairly. The venue closes at 11 PM, which puts a natural boundary on the evening. Come here for the first hour or two before deciding where the rest of the night goes.
