Korhely
Korhely at Király utca 26 is Pécs's most recognizable student ruin bar. Two rooms across a ground-floor space that has accumulated its character through years of practical decisions: mismatched chairs, salvaged furniture, walls with layers of posters and graffiti, a low ceiling that traps sound and heat once the place fills. Capacity runs to about 80 to 90 people before it feels crowded. The bar itself is a single counter in the front room, serving draft beer, shots, and a minimal cocktail list. The back room has more seating and a slightly lower noise level than the front, which means still fairly loud on a Friday. Korhely (the word roughly translates to 'carouser' in Hungarian) is exactly what the name suggests: a bar that runs on cheap beer and student energy without apology. It opens at 4 PM on weekdays and runs until 2 to 4 AM on weekends.

Insider Tip
Get there before 9 PM on Fridays or you'll be standing. The back room is your best bet for a seat once the front fills. Cash moves faster at the bar on busy nights. The cheapest beer on the street is served here; treat it as the base camp for an evening before moving to other venues.
Full Review
Korhely on Király utca 26 is the bar that Pécs's university students use as their default option. The name signals the operating philosophy: this is a bar for carousing, not cocktail appreciation. It delivers on that premise without confusion.
The space has the organic layout of a place that was never designed. The front room holds the bar and the first cluster of seating. The back room adds capacity without adding much visual coherence. The walls carry years of accumulated stickers, posters, and graffiti that serve as a record of the bar's social history. Nothing has been refreshed for aesthetic purposes.
Beer at 800 to 1,000 HUF is among the cheapest on Király utca. The cocktail list runs ten to twelve options, all serviceable, none remarkable. Shots at 500 to 700 HUF keep the budget-conscious population hydrated through the evening. The bar staff are fast on busy nights, which is the main operational virtue.
The crowd is almost entirely local. University of Pécs students, young people from the city who've been coming here since they were freshers, and the occasional visitor who has been directed here by someone who knows Pécs. Foreign visitors stand out slightly, but the atmosphere is welcoming rather than closed.
Friday is the peak night. The place hits capacity between 9:30 and 11 PM and stays there until around 1 AM. Saturday follows a similar pattern. Weeknights are calmer, and the back room stays at a conversational noise level until around 10 PM.
Korhely is not Pécs's most interesting bar, but it is the most representative one. If you want to understand what student nightlife in a Hungarian provincial city looks like, this is the accurate version.
