Bord'Elle Boutique Bar

Old Montreal, Montreal

Bord'Elle Boutique Bar at 300 Rue Saint-Paul East brings a theatrical burlesque-inspired concept to Old Montreal's heritage district. The venue occupies a two-level space in a 19th-century stone building, with the ground floor serving as a restaurant and cocktail bar during dinner hours and the full venue transforming into a lounge and party space later in the evening. The decor is deliberately opulent: velvet curtains, crystal chandeliers, antique mirrors, and vintage furniture arranged to create the impression of a 1920s Parisian salon. Capacity is around 200 across both levels. Weekend nights feature burlesque-style performances, DJ sets, and a crowd that dresses to match the setting. The cocktail menu leans classic with theatrical presentation, and the kitchen serves French-influenced fare during dinner service. Bord'Elle has positioned itself as Old Montreal's most explicitly styled venue, attracting visitors who want the experience of the space as much as the food and drinks.

What to Expect

A theatrical, visually rich space with velvet, crystal, and vintage details everywhere you look. The atmosphere is deliberately glamorous, and the crowd plays along. On weekends, performers add to the spectacle.

Full Review

Bord'Elle is Montreal's most deliberately styled bar, and your reaction to it depends entirely on your tolerance for spectacle. If you want a straightforward drink in a quiet room, this is the wrong address. If you want to feel like you've walked into a Baz Luhrmann set, it's exactly right.

The ground floor operates as a restaurant during the early evening, serving French-inspired dishes in a room decorated with more velvet and crystal than most people encounter in a year. The food is solid, not transcendent, but the presentation matches the room. Eating here before the nightlife transition adds context that walk-in bar patrons miss.

The shift happens around 10 PM. Tables clear, lights dim, the DJ starts, and the crowd changes. Weekend nights bring burlesque performances that are well-produced and well-received, drawing applause from a crowd that's had enough cocktails to be enthusiastic but not enough to be sloppy. The performances are tasteful by burlesque standards and theatrical enough to justify the venue's concept.

The cocktail menu supports the aesthetic with presentation that borders on props. Drinks arrive in vintage glassware, occasionally smoking or sparkling with garnishes that look designed for photography. The actual liquid underneath is well-made, with classic recipes executed by bartenders who clearly have training. The prices are high, CAD 18 to 24, but consistent with the Old Montreal range for this level of production.

Bottle service is available and common among groups. Tables with bottles get the best vantage points for performances and the most attention from staff. Walk-in bar seating works too, but you'll be on the periphery of the action rather than at the center.

The venue's main limitation is its specificity. Bord'Elle does one thing and commits to it fully. If the theatrical, burlesque-inspired concept appeals to you, it's one of the best executions of that idea in Canada. If it doesn't, nothing about the experience will change your mind.
