Boteco Belmonte
Boteco Belmonte is one of Rio's most reliable neighborhood chains, and the Copacabana branch delivers the same formula that's worked for decades: a massive menu covering everything from steaks to seafood, cold draft beer that never stops flowing, and tables that fill from morning to 2 AM. The kitchen is consistent rather than remarkable. You know what you're getting: decent empanadas, good Brazilian bar food, portions built for sharing. What makes Belmonte work is its utility. Need a beer after the beach? Belmonte. Late-night snack? Belmonte. Football on the screen with friends? Belmonte.
What to Expect
A reliable, no-surprises bar-restaurant that locals use as a daily meeting point. The vibe shifts from casual breakfast to buzzy dinner to late-night drinks throughout the day. It's not special, but it's always there when you need it. And in a beach neighborhood, that counts for a lot.
Dependable neighborhood energy. The default Rio bar.
Background samba and MPB. Sports on screens.
Anything from boardshorts to business casual. Nobody cares.
Groups wanting reliable food and drinks at any hour. Good for post-beach recovery.
Cards and cash accepted
Price Range
Mains R$30-60, chopp R$10-16, petiscos R$20-40
≈ €2-9 / $2-10

Insider Tip
Great for post-beach beers and snacks. The portions are large, so share between two or three people. Don't overthink the menu; it's a boteco, not a fine-dining restaurant. The chopp is always cold.
Full Review
Belmonte is a Rio institution with multiple locations, and the Copacabana branch maintains the same formula that's worked for decades. The space is split between an indoor bar and a sidewalk terrace with plastic furniture. A glass display case shows the day's petiscos, and the draft beer flows from early afternoon until late.
The food is the main draw alongside the beer. Belmonte's petiscos are a step above the average boteco: well-seasoned, freshly made, and served quickly. The empadas, bolinhos, and grilled dishes are all reliable. Chopp is served properly cold in frosted glasses. The crowd is mixed across age, class, and origin, which is the sign of a genuinely good boteco.
Belmonte doesn't need to be more than it is. The formula of cold beer, good food, and sidewalk seating in a Copacabana location is perfect for what it delivers. It's not a destination for nightlife seekers, but it's the ideal spot for an early evening that might turn into a late one without anyone planning it.
The sidewalk tables fill by 6 PM on weekdays and earlier on weekends. Standing at the counter inside is faster if you want a quick beer and snack. The empadas are the must-order item.
The Neighborhood
This Belmonte branch sits on one of Copacabana's commercial streets, surrounded by shops, restaurants, and the constant foot traffic that defines the neighborhood. Multiple other botecos and bars are within walking distance for those who want to move on.
