Nouvelle Vague
Nouvelle Vague is a cocktail lounge on Rruga Pjeter Bogdani, one of Blloku's main dining and drinking streets. The venue occupies a ground-floor space with a small mezzanine, seating about 70 across two levels. The interior design runs vintage-modern, with mid-century furniture, subdued lighting, and wall art that references 1960s European cinema. The bar counter dominates the main room, backed by a shelf of spirits that includes a notable gin collection. The bartenders here are among Blloku's most skilled, trained in European craft cocktail traditions and happy to go off-menu for knowledgeable customers. The crowd is slightly older than the standard Blloku bar, with professionals in their late twenties to forties making up the core clientele.
What to Expect
Walk in to dim lighting, carefully chosen music, and a bar counter that's clearly the center of gravity. The aesthetic is intentional without being pretentious. Expect quality cocktails, unhurried service, and a crowd that's there to drink well rather than drink fast.
Refined, intimate, and cocktail-focused. Blloku's grown-up bar.
Jazz, bossa nova, and indie-electronic at low volume. Music supports conversation rather than competing with it.
Smart casual. The crowd dresses well. A collared shirt and decent shoes are the norm.
Cocktail enthusiasts, date nights, anyone looking for Blloku's most polished bar experience

Insider Tip
Ask the bartender for an off-menu recommendation based on your preferences. They enjoy the challenge and usually deliver something memorable. The mezzanine is quieter for conversation.
Full Review
Nouvelle Vague is the bar you visit when you want to remember that Tirana's drinking scene has depth beyond cheap beer and party clubs. The cocktail program is genuinely impressive, especially given the prices. A EUR 6 cocktail here would cost EUR 15 in London and be worth it at either price.
The gin collection is the headline. The shelf behind the bar holds bottles from across Europe, including several you won't find elsewhere in Albania. The bartenders know their stock and can guide you through options with an enthusiasm that doesn't tip into performance. A gin and tonic made with Albanian botanicals was one of the best I've had in the Balkans.
The interior design earns its French New Wave name. The aesthetic is curated without being museum-like. People sit in the vintage chairs and on the leather banquettes as if they're furniture rather than installations. The mezzanine level provides a slightly elevated view of the main room and tends to be quieter, making it the better option for conversation-heavy evenings.
Nouvelle Vague works as a standalone destination rather than a bar-crawl stop. The pace here rewards settling in. Order a couple of cocktails, let the bartender surprise you with something, and enjoy the atmosphere. The crowd is Blloku's most adult and most cosmopolitan, which creates a sense of being in a European capital rather than a developing-economy outlier. Because in this room, Tirana is exactly that.
