Loft Lounge
Loft Lounge operates on the upper level of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on Galle Road, Colombo's largest five-star property with over 500 rooms. The space seats roughly 150 across a main lounge area with low seating, a bar counter, and a small dance floor that becomes the focal point on Friday and Saturday nights. The design is modern and dark: charcoal walls, recessed lighting, leather and velvet furniture, and a lighting system that shifts from warm lounge tones to full club mode as the evening progresses. DJ sets start around 9 PM on weekends, running house, R&B, and commercial dance tracks. The crowd is Colombo's young professional class at their most fashionable. Women dress up in ways that you won't see anywhere else in Sri Lanka. Men match the effort. Free entry keeps the venue accessible, and the cocktail prices sit in the middle range for hotel bars. Loft Lounge is the default Friday night destination for a specific slice of Colombo society.
What to Expect
Stepping off the elevator into a corridor that opens into a dark, low-ceilinged space with purple and blue accent lighting. The bass from the DJ booth pulses through the floor. The crowd is young, dressed well, and conscious of being seen. By 11 PM the small dance floor is packed and the energy peaks. This is Colombo's closest equivalent to a proper nightclub without actually being one.
Stylish, social, and image-conscious. The venue where Colombo's fashion-forward crowd comes to be seen.
House, deep house, R&B, and commercial dance music on weekends. The DJ adjusts to the room but trends toward international rather than local sounds.
Smart casual enforced with more attention than most Colombo venues. Closed shoes and collared shirts for men. The crowd sets a higher standard than the door policy: expect people dressed for Instagram.
Young professionals and visitors who want to experience Colombo's social scene at its most fashionable. Groups of friends looking for a free-entry alternative to ON14's cover charge. Anyone who wants to dance without committing to Cleopatra's full nightclub experience.
Credit cards and cash (LKR) accepted. Room charges for Cinnamon Grand guests.

Full Review
Loft Lounge benefits from its location inside the Cinnamon Grand, which gives it access to a large hotel audience plus the surrounding Galle Road foot traffic. The venue fills faster than any other bar in Colombo on Friday nights, partly because of the no-cover policy and partly because the crowd knows this is where their friends will be.
The space itself is well-designed for its purpose. Low ceilings create intimacy. The lighting shifts gradually from lounge to club mode, pulling the energy up without a jarring transition. The dance floor is small, maybe 40 people at capacity, but that compression adds to the atmosphere. Seating around the edges fills early, and by 10:30 PM latecomers are standing with drinks in hand.
The cocktail menu is solid without being exceptional. Standard hotel-level mixing with a few signature options that use local ingredients. Prices are fair for the setting. Beer is the budget option, and Lion Lager flows steadily. The bar team handles the Friday rush competently, though service slows noticeably between 11 PM and midnight when everyone seems to order simultaneously.
Loft Lounge works best as part of a longer evening. Start with dinner or drinks elsewhere, arrive at Loft around 10 PM, stay until it peaks around midnight, then decide if you're heading to ON14 or calling it a night. The venue's limitation is its schedule: three nights a week (sometimes four) means planning around availability. Thursday is the least crowded and best for anyone who prefers conversation to a packed dance floor.
