Curve Bar
Curve Bar occupies the ground floor of the Grand Hyatt Colombo, a property that opened in 2021 as one of the city's newest five-star hotels. The bar takes its name from a sweeping curved counter that wraps around a central backlit spirits display holding over 200 bottles. Seating spreads across high stools at the bar, low leather armchairs arranged in conversation clusters, and a few window-facing seats that look out onto the hotel's courtyard. The space holds about 80 people comfortably. Lighting stays dim, all amber and warm wood tones, with a playlist that runs deep house and jazz at conversational volume. The cocktail program is the real draw. The bar team trained under a Singapore-based consultant, and the results show in techniques and presentation that outclass most of Colombo. Weekday crowds are dominated by hotel guests and business travelers. Friday evenings bring Colombo's professional class for after-work drinks.
What to Expect
You walk through the Grand Hyatt's modern lobby into a space that feels more like a Singapore cocktail bar than anything you'd expect in Colombo. The curved bar counter draws your eye first, backlit bottles glowing amber against dark wood. Low music, the clink of ice in mixing tins, and conversation at a civilized level.
Polished, warm, and quietly confident. The kind of bar where conversation flows naturally because everything else, the lighting, the music, the seating, is designed to support it.
Deep house, jazz, and lounge music at background volume. Live jazz sets on occasional Friday evenings.
Smart casual. Closed shoes and collared shirts for men. The crowd dresses well without being formal. No flip-flops or beachwear.
Cocktail enthusiasts, business travelers wanting a polished after-work drink, couples looking for a sophisticated setting without the pretension of a members-only club.
All major credit cards accepted. Cash in LKR also works. Room charges available for hotel guests.

Insider Tip
Ask for the off-menu cocktail list; the bartenders have a rotating selection of house creations that don't appear on the printed menu. Friday happy hour from 5 to 7 PM drops cocktail prices by 30%. The armchairs near the far window are the quietest seats in the house.
Full Review
The Grand Hyatt's lobby is all marble and glass, modern without being cold. Curve Bar sits to the right of the reception, separated by a subtle change in floor material and lighting rather than walls. The open layout means you transition from hotel lobby to cocktail bar without a formal entrance, which keeps the atmosphere relaxed.
The bar counter itself seats about 15 and offers the best experience. Watching the bartenders work is worth the visit alone. The cocktail menu runs 20 options divided by spirit base, with each drink presented with the kind of attention to garnish and glassware that marks a bar team that cares. The house Negroni variation, made with a local arrack-based amaro, is worth trying. Prices are Colombo's highest for cocktails, but the quality justifies it.
The seating areas away from the bar are comfortable but lack the energy of counter seats. Leather armchairs arranged in pairs work well for dates or quiet conversation. Larger groups end up at the low tables near the windows. Service is attentive without hovering, which is a Grand Hyatt standard that the Colombo property delivers on.
Curve Bar's weakness is its crowd consistency. Weekdays can feel empty, with three or four hotel guests nursing drinks in a space designed for 80. Friday evenings are the sweet spot: enough people for atmosphere without the bar feeling crowded. Saturday is hit or miss depending on events elsewhere in the hotel. Compared to Capital Bar at the Shangri-La, Curve Bar wins on cocktail quality but loses on atmosphere and view.
The Neighborhood
The Grand Hyatt sits on Lotus Road, a 5-minute walk from the Hilton and Shangri-La along Colombo's harbor. The hotel is one of the city's newest properties and anchors the eastern end of Fort's hotel strip. After Curve Bar closes, Cleopatra at the Hilton is the nearest late-night option.
Getting There
Enter through the Grand Hyatt's main entrance on Lotus Road. The bar is visible from the lobby. From Galle Face, a PickMe ride takes 5-10 minutes. Walking from the Shangri-La takes about 7 minutes along the harbor road.
