Cleopatra
Cleopatra has occupied the second floor of the Colombo Hilton since the early 1990s, making it the longest-running nightclub in Sri Lanka. The venue holds roughly 300 people across a main dance floor, a raised VIP section with booth seating, and a long bar that runs the length of the left wall. Mirrored walls and a rotating lighting rig give the space a retro feel that the management has embraced rather than updated. The DJ booth sits elevated above the dance floor with a decent sound system that fills the room without the punishing volume of purpose-built clubs. On weekends the crowd is a genuine mix: Sri Lankan professionals in their 30s and 40s, Indian business travelers from the Hilton's corporate clientele, European and Australian tourists, and a steady contingent of expats who treat this as their default late-night option. Weeknight crowds are thinner and skew heavily toward hotel guests looking for somewhere to drink after the lobby bar closes.
What to Expect
Walking in from the Hilton's quiet corridor, the bass hits first. The lighting shifts between blue and purple washes across the mirrored walls. A mix of Western pop, Bollywood hits, and Latin tracks keeps the dance floor moving. The crowd is well-dressed and older than you'd find at a typical Asian nightclub.
Retro, diverse, and surprisingly fun once the dance floor fills up after 11 PM on weekends.
Commercial pop, Bollywood, Latin, R&B, and occasional hip-hop. The DJ reads the room and adjusts to the crowd's nationality mix.
Smart casual enforced. Collared shirts and closed shoes for men. No shorts, sandals, or sportswear. Women dress up for weekends.
Hotel guests wanting a late-night dance option, mixed groups looking for a reliable club with a diverse crowd, anyone curious about Colombo's longest-running nightclub.

Insider Tip
Arrive before 10:30 PM on Fridays to avoid the queue that builds around 11. The VIP booths along the back wall have the best view of the dance floor and can be reserved through the Hilton's front desk. Wednesday nights are quieter and cover-free, good for a low-key drink with music.
Full Review
The entrance sits past the Hilton's lobby elevators on the second floor, through a corridor that feels like it belongs to a different decade. That's not entirely wrong. Cleopatra hasn't had a major renovation in years, and the mirrored walls, booth seating, and lighting rig have a 1990s quality that some find charming and others find dated. The space works, though. The dance floor is large enough for 100 people to move without collisions, the sound system hits clean at conversation-killing volume, and the bar service is faster than you'd expect from a hotel nightclub.
The crowd makes this place. On a good Friday night, you'll hear Sinhalese, Tamil, Hindi, English, and German within a five-minute span. Sri Lankan couples dance to Bollywood tracks. Australian tourists request hip-hop. A table of Indian businessmen orders bottle service. The DJ balances these competing requests with skill that comes from years of practice. Not every song works for everyone, but the rotation keeps most people on the floor.
VIP booths line the back wall and offer table service that's overpriced but convenient. The standard seats along the sides are fine and don't carry a minimum spend. Drink quality is hotel-standard: reliable if unexciting. The cocktails won't win awards, but the spirits are genuine and the pours are honest.
Cleopatra's main limitation is its schedule. Operating only Wednesday through Saturday means catching it requires planning. The Wednesday and Thursday crowds are thin, sometimes painfully so. Friday and Saturday are the only nights worth targeting. Compared to ON14's rooftop glamour or Loft Lounge's polished crowd, Cleopatra feels rougher around the edges. That's part of its appeal.
The Neighborhood
Cleopatra sits inside the Hilton Colombo on Lotus Road in the Fort district. Echelon Pub is downstairs in the same building for a pre-club beer. The Shangri-La and Grand Hyatt are within a 10-minute walk along the harbor. After Cleopatra closes, there's nowhere to go in Fort; the area is dead by 2 AM.
Getting There
Enter through the Hilton Colombo's main lobby on Lotus Road. Take the elevator or stairs to the second floor and follow the corridor signs. From Galle Face or Kollupitiya, a PickMe ride takes 5-10 minutes. From the airport, 45-90 minutes by taxi depending on traffic.
