Sky Lounge
Sky Lounge operates on the rooftop of the Kingsbury Hotel on Janadhipathi Mawatha, straddling the boundary between Fort and the harbor. The venue offers city skyline views from an open-air terrace with covered and uncovered sections, seating roughly 100 guests across lounge chairs, high tables, and a bar counter. Shisha service sets it apart from other Colombo rooftop bars, with a menu of flavored tobacco options that draws a regular crowd of young Sri Lankan men and mixed groups on weekend evenings. The cocktail menu is standard hotel fare without the ambition of ON14 or Capital Bar. What Sky Lounge lacks in drink craft it compensates for with accessibility: no cover charge, relaxed dress standards compared to ON14, and a location that catches the harbor breeze. Sunset through early evening is the best window. The venue quiets down after 10 PM as the crowd migrates to livelier options.
What to Expect
The elevator opens onto a terrace with the city spread below. The harbor sits to the west, Fort's colonial buildings to the north, and Colombo's towers to the south. Shisha smoke drifts across the terrace. Groups of young Sri Lankans cluster around hookahs. The atmosphere is more casual than ON14, more social than a hotel lobby bar.
Relaxed, breezy, and shisha-scented. A chill alternative to Colombo's more intense nightlife options.
Background lounge and chill-out music through the house system. No live music. No DJ sets except during occasional special events.
Smart casual but enforced more loosely than ON14. Clean casual wear works fine. No beachwear or flip-flops.
Shisha enthusiasts, sunset chasers wanting a less crowded alternative to ON14, couples looking for a casual rooftop drink, groups of friends who prioritize relaxation over partying.
Credit cards and cash (LKR) accepted. Room charges for Kingsbury guests.

Insider Tip
Go for the shisha and the view rather than the cocktails. Sunset timing (6:00 to 6:30 PM) from the uncovered section offers a different perspective than ON14, facing the harbor and Fort district. Weekday evenings are quieter and more relaxed.
Full Review
Sky Lounge sits on the Kingsbury's rooftop, a hotel that occupies a prime spot where Fort meets the harbor. The views are good but not as dramatic as ON14's 14th-floor panorama. You're lower, closer to the city's texture rather than floating above it. The harbor cranes, the colonial buildings of Fort, and the Indian Ocean beyond form the backdrop.
The shisha service is the venue's distinguishing feature. A dedicated menu offers a dozen flavors, and the hookah setup is well-maintained. Groups of two to four gather around hookahs and stay for hours, which gives the terrace a relaxed, lingering atmosphere that Colombo's more fashion-conscious venues lack. If shisha isn't your thing, the appeal diminishes significantly.
Drinks are acceptable but unremarkable. The cocktail list covers the basics without any signature creativity. Beer and wine are priced at standard hotel rates. Service is attentive when the venue isn't busy, which is most of the time outside of Friday and Saturday evenings. The food menu offers grilled items and bar snacks that pair well with shisha.
Sky Lounge works best for what it is: a casual rooftop spot for a relaxed evening with friends. It doesn't compete with ON14 for glamour or atmosphere, and it doesn't try to. The no-cover-charge policy and relaxed dress code make it accessible to a broader crowd. Use it for sunset drinks or an early evening shisha session before heading to venues with more energy.
The Neighborhood
The Kingsbury Hotel sits on Janadhipathi Mawatha near the Fort Railway Station and the old parliament building. The Hilton (with Cleopatra and Echelon Pub) is a 5-minute walk east. The Galle Face Green is a 10-minute walk south. Sky Lounge works best as a sunset starting point before heading to Fort's hotel bars or south to the Galle Face strip.
Getting There
Enter the Kingsbury Hotel on Janadhipathi Mawatha. Take the elevator to the rooftop level. From Colombo Fort Railway Station, it's a 3-minute walk. From Galle Face, a PickMe ride takes 5-10 minutes. From the airport, 45-90 minutes depending on traffic.
