Gran Vía, Madrid

Shoko Madrid combines a restaurant and nightclub in a space that transitions between the two as the evening progresses. The restaurant serves Asian-fusion cuisine during dinner hours, with the dining area converting to a dance floor around midnight. The interior carries an Asian theme with bamboo accents, dim lighting, and decorative elements that create a lounge atmosphere during dinner. Once club mode kicks in, the lighting drops further, the sound system takes over, and DJs play hip-hop, reggaeton, and Latin music to a young crowd. Entry for the club portion runs EUR 10-15, often with a drink included. Dinner is a separate affair with mains running EUR 15-25. Club drinks cost EUR 8-12 for cocktails and EUR 5-7 for beer. The crowd is young and international, drawn by the combination of dining and dancing. The venue sits on Calle de Toledo, slightly south of the main Gran Via club strip. Weekend nights are the busiest, with the dance floor filling from about 1 AM.

Full Review

Shoko's dual identity is its defining feature. The early evening restaurant service is decent if unremarkable Asian-fusion: sushi rolls, noodle dishes, and small plates in a space that feels more like a lounge than a traditional restaurant. The dim lighting and low seating hint at what the room will become later.

The transition to club mode happens gradually around midnight. Tables are moved, the dance floor emerges, and the DJ takes over from the background playlist. By 1 AM, the room looks completely different. The crowd during club hours is young, predominantly early twenties, and here to dance to familiar music.

The music is mainstream and proud of it. Hip-hop and reggaeton dominate, with Latin tracks getting the biggest reactions. If you want deep cuts or underground sounds, look elsewhere. If you want to dance to current hits in a stylish room, Shoko delivers.

The venue's location on Calle de Toledo puts it slightly away from the main Gran Via nightlife cluster. This isn't necessarily a disadvantage: it means fewer tourist groups and a more local crowd than venues directly on Gran Via. The walk from Sol takes about 10 minutes through the La Latina area.

The Neighborhood

Shoko sits on Calle de Toledo, the main road running south from Sol through the La Latina neighborhood. The surrounding area has tapas bars and traditional Madrid drinking spots that contrast with Shoko's modern interior. It bridges the La Latina and Gran Via nightlife zones.

Getting There

Metro L5 to La Latina, then a 5-minute walk north on Calle de Toledo. From Sol (L1/L2/L3), walk south for 10 minutes. The venue is well-signed on the main road.
