Sea Point, Cape Town

Strolla brings Italian aperitivo culture to Sea Point's Main Road, operating as a bar and eatery that specializes in spritzes, antipasti, and a Mediterranean atmosphere. The interior mixes tiled floors, arched mirrors, and warm wood with a long bar that serves as the social center. An outdoor terrace stretches along the sidewalk, filling with the after-work crowd from late afternoon. The menu is built around sharing: charcuterie boards, bruschetta, olives, and cheese plates designed to accompany the drinks rather than replace a full dinner. Aperol Spritzes and Negronis dominate the order slips.

What to Expect

A warm, social bar with Mediterranean energy. The terrace hums with conversation, the staff are attentive and friendly, and the drinks keep coming at a pace that encourages lingering. It's less a destination and more a launching pad for the evening, though many people stay all night.

Warm, sociable, and Mediterranean. The kind of place where one drink turns into three because the setting is too pleasant to leave.

Italian lounge, nu-disco, and light house music. The vibe leans European café rather than nightclub.

Full Review

Strolla captures something that Sea Point's bar scene needed: a venue focused on the early-evening social window that doesn't try to be a club by 10 PM. The Italian aperitivo concept translates well to Cape Town's outdoor lifestyle, and the execution is solid.

The terrace is the center of the operation. Eight to ten tables line the sidewalk, shielded by planters and awnings that create a semi-private outdoor dining room. On warm evenings, this is prime Sea Point real estate, and the tables fill fast. The indoor bar is well-designed, with the long counter serving as both a service point and a social hub for solo visitors and couples.

The drinks program centers on Italian classics. The Aperol Spritz (ZAR 95) is properly made with decent Prosecco. Negronis (ZAR 110) are balanced and use quality gin. The wine list favors Italian imports and Cape Winelands producers in equal measure. A glass of Vermentino or a local Chenin Blanc runs ZAR 70-100.

The food deserves attention. The sharing plates are designed for grazing alongside drinks, and they deliver. The burrata (ZAR 120) is creamy and fresh. The charcuterie board (ZAR 160 for two) includes a well-curated selection of imported and local cured meats. Bruschetta options rotate with the season.

Service is warm and paced for lingering. The staff understand that the aperitivo model means people sit for hours over several rounds, and they don't rush tables. Check-ins are regular without being intrusive.

The limitation is that Strolla closes relatively early. By midnight on weekends and 11 PM on weekdays, the evening wraps up here. It works best as a starting point, either before dinner elsewhere or before moving to late-night venues on the strip.

The crowd is a mix of Sea Point residents, hotel guests, and visitors from other parts of Cape Town who've heard about the terrace. Ages range from late 20s to 50s, and the atmosphere is convivial without being rowdy.

The Neighborhood

On Main Road in Sea Point, surrounded by the strip's other bars and restaurants. Within easy Uber distance of Camps Bay, Green Point, and the City Bowl. The venue works naturally as a first stop on a Sea Point evening crawl.

Getting There

On Main Road in Sea Point. Uber from the City Bowl costs ZAR 30-50, from Camps Bay ZAR 40-60. The outdoor terrace is visible from the street.
