Bayekou Beach
Bayekou Beach sits directly on Plage de Ngor with sand underfoot and the Atlantic Ocean a few steps away. The bar and restaurant occupies a stretch of beachfront with open-air seating, thatched shade structures, and a kitchen that grills fresh seafood brought in by local fishermen. During the day, it's a relaxed beach hangout where you can swim, eat grilled fish, and drink cold Gazelle beers in the sand. The transition to evening brings DJ sets on weekends, string lights, and a crowd that shifts from families and tourists to a younger, more social group. Capacity is flexible given the outdoor layout, but around 150 people can be comfortably seated across the various zones. The cocktail menu focuses on tropical drinks mixed with fresh fruit, and the rum punch is the default order. Ngor Island sits visible offshore, reachable by pirogue, adding to the setting's appeal.

Full Review
Bayekou Beach represents the other side of Almadies nightlife: the side that doesn't require a collared shirt or a midnight arrival time. This is a beach bar in the truest sense, built on the sand of Plage de Ngor with the Atlantic as its backdrop.
The daytime experience is the starting point. Swimming in the ocean, then sitting down to a plate of grilled fish with attieke (cassava couscous) and a cold beer is one of Dakar's simple pleasures. The fishermen who supply the kitchen launch their pirogues from the same beach, so the seafood is as fresh as it gets. The grilled thiof is the standout, a firm white fish that takes well to the charcoal treatment.
As the afternoon moves toward evening, the atmosphere shifts. String lights come on, the music volume increases, and the crowd changes composition. Families with children give way to groups of friends and couples. On Friday and Saturday evenings, a DJ sets up and plays a mix of Afrobeats, tropical house, and danceable rhythms that match the beach setting. The volume stays at a level where conversation is still possible, which is the right call for the environment.
The cocktail menu keeps things simple. Rum punches, caipirinhas, fresh fruit cocktails made with mango or passion fruit. The bartenders aren't mixologists, but the drinks are cold, fruity, and do the job. Beer drinkers will be happy with Gazelle or Flag served properly cold.
The setting is the real product. Ngor Island sits offshore, visible from the bar, and pirogues shuttle between the beach and the island throughout the day. The sunset over the ocean, watched from a low chair in the sand with a drink in hand, is a memory worth making.
The limitations are practical. Cash only, which means planning ahead. The beach is not safe to walk along after dark, so arrange a taxi through the bar staff when you're ready to leave. The kitchen quality varies depending on the day's catch.
The Neighborhood
On Plage de Ngor at the northern end of the Almadies peninsula. Pirogues to Ngor Island depart from the same beach. The Route des Almadies clubs are a short taxi ride south.
Getting There
Taxi from the Route des Almadies strip takes 5-10 minutes. From Plateau, XOF 3,500-5,500. Tell the driver 'Plage de Ngor' or 'Bayekou.' Taxis can be harder to find from the beach at night, so ask staff to call one.
