Long's Bar
Long's Bar holds a prime position on the Paseo Carmelitas strip, its open-air terrace extending onto the sidewalk of Avenida Espana. The bar has been a Villa Morra fixture for years, functioning as the neighborhood's default gathering point for after-work drinks and pre-club warmups. The interior is narrow and air-conditioned, with a long bar counter and high stools. But the terrace is the draw, with about 20 tables facing the street action of the Paseo. The drink menu runs deeper than most Asuncion bars, with craft cocktails, imported whiskeys, and a rotating selection of beers that goes beyond the standard Pilsen and Baviera options. Food is available but secondary to the drinking. The crowd is a mix of professionals in their late 20s to 40s, after-work groups, and couples on early dates. On Friday and Saturday evenings, every table is taken by 10 PM.
What to Expect
You'll see the terrace first, packed with groups nursing cocktails and watching the Paseo Carmelitas foot traffic. Inside is cooler and quieter. The music is background level, just loud enough to set a mood without killing conversation. Bartenders know what they're doing with the cocktail menu, which is a pleasant surprise in a city where most bars stick to beer and basic spirits.
Relaxed, social, and people-watching friendly. The terrace creates a natural flow of conversation between tables as the night goes on.
Background lounge music, jazz, and chill electronic. Volume stays low enough for conversation at the terrace tables.
Smart casual. The after-work crowd comes straight from the office in business casual; evening visitors dress a step up from jeans and a t-shirt.
Pre-club drinks, after-work socializing, or a relaxed evening on the terrace for people who prefer conversation over dancing.
Cash and credit cards accepted. Guaranies preferred but USD taken at some exchange rate.

Full Review
Long's Bar works because of its location and its terrace. Sitting on the Paseo Carmelitas with a cocktail in hand, watching the Friday night parade of Asuncion's young professionals, is one of the city's most enjoyable nightlife experiences. The bar doesn't try to be a club or a restaurant; it knows what it is and does it well.
The cocktail program is above average for Asuncion. The bartenders can make a proper Old Fashioned or Negroni without you having to explain the recipe, which isn't guaranteed in this city. House specials lean toward tropical ingredients: passion fruit, cane sugar, and Paraguayan citrus. Prices for cocktails sit in the 50,000-75,000 PYG range, which is premium for Asuncion but still cheap by global standards.
The terrace fills fast on weekends. If you don't have a table by 9 PM on a Friday, you'll be standing at the bar inside or hovering at the edge of someone else's group. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the standing crowd creates natural opportunities for conversation with neighbors. The inside bar area is quieter and has air conditioning, a genuine luxury when Asuncion's humidity climbs in summer.
Service is friendly and reasonably quick. The waiters rotate between the terrace and the interior, and they handle the rush hours with practiced efficiency. Long's sits within easy walking distance of Coyote and other clubs, making it the natural first stop on a night out. One thing to note: the kitchen closes early relative to the bar, so eat before you come or order food when you arrive.
