Mantra Bar KL
Mantra Bar KL sits at street level on Jalan P. Ramlee, the connecting road between KLCC and Bukit Bintang. The venue fills a two-story shophouse with a ground-floor bar that handles the after-work crowd and an upper level with booth seating, a small dance floor, and resident DJs on weekends. The cocktail program is competent without reaching the heights of PS150 or Marini's. What Mantra does well is atmosphere: the lighting, the music programming, and the room layout create an environment that works for both casual drinks and late-night socializing. The crowd tends toward young professionals in their late twenties to early forties, mixing KL locals with the Jalan P. Ramlee office worker population. Weekday evenings draw a steady after-work crowd. Weekends shift the energy toward a more nightlife-focused vibe.
What to Expect
Ground floor opens to the street with a long bar and high tables. The vibe is casual and accessible during early evening. Upstairs is darker, louder, and more intentional about creating a nightlife atmosphere. Weekend evenings build gradually, with the dance floor filling after 11:00 PM.
Professional and social. Not trying to be a club, not settling for just a bar. The sweet spot between the two.
Deep house, R&B remixes, and commercial hip-hop from resident DJs. Background pop and lounge during weekday early evenings
Smart casual. The after-work crowd sets the tone: office wear that's been loosened up. Jeans and a decent shirt work. Sneakers are fine.
After-work drinks that might turn into a late night. Professionals who want a step up from Changkat's casual bars without the price tag of KLCC hotel lounges.
Cards and cash accepted. Tab system available for tables.

Full Review
Jalan P. Ramlee connects two worlds: the corporate polish of KLCC and the street-level energy of Bukit Bintang. Mantra sits on this corridor and borrows from both sides. The ground floor bar has the accessibility of a neighborhood pub with better production values. Walk in after work, order a beer, and the atmosphere is low-key and welcoming.
Upstairs changes the equation. The lighting drops, the DJ booth activates on weekends, and the booth seating around the edges fills with groups settling in for a longer evening. The small dance floor near the DJ doesn't dominate the room, allowing people to choose between dancing and drinking without one group imposing on the other.
Drink quality is solid middle ground. The cocktails are well-made but don't aspire to the craft heights of KL's specialist bars. That's fine for what this venue is. A Moscow Mule or Gin & Tonic arrives correctly proportioned and cold, which is all most people need on a Thursday night after work.
The crowd is one of KL's more interesting mixes. Malaysian Chinese professionals, expat managers, visiting business travelers, and the occasional tourist who stumbled off Jalan P. Ramlee. Conversations happen naturally because the room's proportions and the music volume (carefully managed before the DJ takes over) create the right conditions.
Pricing sits between Changkat and KLCC. A beer at MYR 22 to 30 is a few ringgit above Changkat but well below the hotel bars. Cocktails at MYR 35 to 55 are fair for the setting. No cover charge any night, which makes it an easy add to an evening plan.
The Neighborhood
Jalan P. Ramlee runs between KLCC and Bukit Bintang, lined with restaurants, bars, and office buildings. Walking south from Mantra toward Changkat takes about 10 minutes. Walking north toward KLCC and the Mandarin Oriental takes about 8 minutes. The street is well-lit and busy enough to feel safe at night.
Getting There
A 10-minute walk from either KLCC LRT station or Bukit Bintang MRT. Grab drops you directly at the door from most central KL locations for MYR 6-12. The venue's street-level entrance on Jalan P. Ramlee is easy to spot.
