Vecriga (Old Riga), Riga

Coyote Fly is Riga's biggest nightclub, occupying a multi-level space on Valnu iela 8 in the heart of Old Town. The venue holds roughly 800 people across three rooms, each with its own sound system and programming. The main floor runs commercial dance and EDM, a second room covers hip-hop and R&B, and a smaller VIP area offers table service with a more relaxed atmosphere. The club went through a major renovation in 2019 that upgraded the lighting and sound to match European standards. Weekend nights pull a mix of Latvian university students, tourists, and visiting Scandinavians who fly in on budget airlines. The dancefloor gets packed by 1 AM and stays that way until closing. Door staff can be selective about entry, especially for groups of men without women in the party.

What to Expect

A proper European nightclub experience with dark rooms, heavy bass, and laser shows. The entrance opens into the main floor where the DJ booth sits elevated above the crowd. Expect a young, dressed-up crowd and a queue at the bar during peak hours.

Atmosphere

High-energy, loud, and crowded on weekends. The main floor gets sweaty and intense from 1 AM onward.

Music

Commercial EDM and dance on the main floor, hip-hop and R&B in the second room, mixed pop in the VIP area

Dress Code

Smart casual minimum. No sportswear, no flip-flops. Collared shirts and clean shoes for men. Women dress up, especially on Saturdays.

Best For

Groups looking for a proper club night with multiple rooms and a big crowd. Good for first-time Riga visitors who want the main nightclub experience.

Payment

Cards accepted at all bars. Cash also works. EUR only.

Price Range

Entry 5-15 EUR, beer 4-6 EUR, cocktails 8-12 EUR, table service from 100 EUR

Entry ~$5-16, beer ~$4-7, cocktails ~$9-13

Hours

Fri-Sat 23:00-06:00, occasional Thursday events from 22:00

Insider Tip

Arrive before midnight to skip the line. The second floor hip-hop room is less crowded and has a better bar-to-customer ratio. Coat check is mandatory in winter and costs 2 EUR.

Full Review

Coyote Fly dominates Riga's club scene by sheer size. The entrance on Valnu iela opens into a ground-floor bar area that serves as a warm-up zone before you descend into the main rooms. The primary dancefloor is well designed: the DJ booth is elevated, sightlines are decent from most angles, and the sound system fills the room without distorting at high volumes.

The second room running hip-hop provides a genuine alternative rather than an afterthought. The programming is separate, the DJ is different, and the crowd self-selects based on music preference. This two-room setup means you're not stuck if the main floor's playlist doesn't click. The VIP area is standard fare: table service, bottle packages, slightly better bathrooms, and a rope line that mostly serves to justify the markup.

Service is adequate at the main bars but stretches thin during peak hours. Ordering two drinks at once saves you a return trip. The bartenders are efficient when they get to you. Bathrooms get rough by 3 AM on busy nights, which is par for the course at any club this size.

Compared to clubs in Tallinn or Vilnius, Coyote Fly holds up well. It's not Berlin or Amsterdam, but it delivers a solid night for the price. The crowd is young and good-looking, the music is competent if not groundbreaking, and the energy on a good Saturday night is real. Door policy gets stricter after 1 AM, so arriving early avoids potential rejection and saves queue time.

The Neighborhood

Coyote Fly sits on Valnu iela, Old Town's main nightlife strip. The street has several other bars within stumbling distance, including Cuba Cafe and various shot bars. Late-night kebab shops line the surrounding streets. The club is a two-minute walk from Livu laukums, where outdoor terraces serve as pre-club gathering spots in summer.

Getting There

In the center of Vecriga on Valnu iela 8. A 5-minute walk from the Freedom Monument, 10 minutes from the central train station. Bolt from the airport costs 8-15 EUR. No dedicated parking; taxis drop off on Kalku iela.
