Aloha Pub
Aloha Pub is a laid-back student bar near the Masaryk University campus buildings, operating without the Thursday-night intensity of Charlie's Hat but with a reliable supply of cold Czech lager and a terrace that becomes the main event from April through October. The interior is casual and slightly island-decorated in a way that arrived in the 2000s and hasn't been reconsidered since, which gives it a comfortable datedness. The draft selection centers on Pilsner Urquell and Gambrinus; there's a short spirits and wine menu that serves as backup for people who decide mid-evening to switch. The crowd is almost entirely local students and young professionals who live in the Veveri area. It's quieter than Charlie's Hat on most nights, which makes it the default second option when the anchor bar is too crowded or too loud. The outdoor terrace is the pub's best asset: a dozen tables on the pavement with proper furniture, heaters in spring and autumn, and enough space that a group of six can have a conversation at normal volume.

Insider Tip
The terrace is the reason to come between April and October. It fills up quickly on warm evenings; arrive by 18:00 if you want outdoor seats. The interior is the fallback and is reliable if unspectacular. Pilsner Urquell is the better draft here over Gambrinus.
Full Review
Aloha Pub's name is technically at odds with its setting in a Czech student neighborhood in central Europe, and the interior decor hasn't resolved this tension. Bamboo accents and island-themed elements sit alongside Czech beer taps and the standard Czech pub furniture, creating a combination that shouldn't work but somehow doesn't offend.
The pub's actual value is the terrace. When the weather permits, the outdoor seating arrangement on the Veveri pavement turns into one of the more pleasant spots in the district to spend two hours. The heaters extend the useful season from late March through October. Groups of students migrate here from Charlie's Hat when the main bar hits capacity, which means the terrace can be busy on Thursday nights even when the interior is quiet.
The draft range is standard Czech, which is all it needs to be. Pilsner Urquell dominates the orders; Gambrinus is the budget choice at a few koruna cheaper. The staff manage the terrace attentively when it's full and with less urgency when it isn't, which is appropriate.
For international visitors, Aloha Pub is the more accessible version of the Veveri student bar experience: slightly quieter than Charlie's Hat, with outdoor space that makes conversation easier, and a price point that makes an evening here genuinely cheap by any European standard.
The Neighborhood
On Veveri street, a short walk from the main Masaryk University faculty buildings.
