Father's House Restaurant

Sok San Road, Siem Reap

Father's House Restaurant occupies a garden property set back from Sok San Road, which gives it a different acoustic and visual character from the street-facing venues nearby. The entrance path leads through a short garden section before opening into the main seating area, which is split between outdoor tables under mature trees and an indoor air-conditioned section. The concept is Khmer home cooking, with a menu that covers family-style dishes, barbecue platters, and fresh seafood options brought in daily. The bar has a smaller footprint than the food operation, which reflects the venue's primary identity as a restaurant. That said, the cocktail selection is decent, and the garden setting makes it one of the more pleasant outdoor drinking spots on the strip on cooler evenings. The early-evening crowd is a mix of hotel guests from neighboring properties and families; it gets slightly younger and more bar-oriented after 20:00. Staff speak functional English and manage tables efficiently during peak service.

Full Review

Father's House offers something genuinely different from the street-front format that most Sok San Road venues share. The garden approach and set-back position mean the ambient sound is birds and low background music rather than passing traffic and competing bars.

The food program is built around home-style Khmer cooking. The barbecue platter is the menu's centerpiece: various meats and seafood on a central grill with dipping sauces and fresh vegetables on the side. It arrives slowly, which is either a feature or a bug depending on your appetite and patience. The fresh fish options change based on availability, and the staff will tell you what came in that day.

The garden is maintained with enough care that it functions as an actual garden rather than a patio with some potted plants. Mature trees provide shade through the late afternoon, and the temperature under the canopy is noticeably cooler than on the road. Mosquito coils are deployed at dusk, though they're not entirely effective after 20:00.

The indoor section is a fallback for weather or for those who find the outdoor insects a problem. It's air-conditioned and functional but loses the character that makes the venue worth visiting.

The bar is secondary to the kitchen, and the cocktail list reflects that. Standard options are available and competently made, but this is not a drinks destination. Come for food in a calm setting, with drinks as the appropriate accompaniment.

The Neighborhood

Father's House sits in the main Sok San Road hotel corridor. The set-back position means it shares the street with hotel entrances rather than directly competing with street-front restaurants. Walking north along Sok San Road from the river, it appears on the right roughly halfway up the commercial stretch.

Getting There

Same approach as other Sok San Road venues. Tuk-tuk from Pub Street or Old Market, 5-7 minutes, $1-2. Look for the entrance gate rather than the street facade.
