Black Sheep Rooftop Bar

4.4
(190 reviews)
Centro, Florianópolis

Black Sheep Rooftop Bar sits on Rua Bocaiúva in central Florianópolis with a clear sightline toward the restored Hercílio Luz Bridge and the bay beyond. The cocktail program leans on Brazilian fruits and cachaça, with bartenders mixing variations on caipirinhas using maracujá, jabuticaba, and seasonal regional ingredients alongside more standard mixology. The crowd skews younger than the hotel rooftops along Beira-Mar Norte, with after-work professionals dominating the early evening and a more weekend-night crowd taking over after 10 PM. Capacity sits at around 120 people across two roof levels with a covered bar area and exposed sunset terrace. The kitchen runs limited dishes built for sharing rather than dinner: charcuterie boards, ceviche, and Brazilian-style finger food. Drinks pricing slots between the value bars on Bocaiúva and the more expensive Beira-Mar rooftops. Opens early evening Wednesday through Saturday and runs until 1 or 2 AM depending on the night.

Full Review

Black Sheep occupies the top floor of a building on Rua Bocaiúva, with the elevator opening directly into the bar area. The layout splits between a covered indoor section housing the main bar and bottle display, and an open terrace that wraps around two sides of the building. The terrace seats sit slightly higher than the surrounding rooflines, which gives unobstructed views west toward the bridge and the bay. The covered area handles rainy weather and the cooler winter months.

The cocktail program is the main draw. Bartenders work from a printed menu of about 25 drinks split between Brazilian-fruit caipirinhas, modern mixology takes on classics, and a few house originals that combine cachaça with less common Brazilian ingredients. The maracujá caipirinha and the jabuticaba sour are reliable starting points. House cachaças are featured prominently, with smaller producer brands from Minas Gerais and Bahia rotating on the menu. Quality is solid; this isn't Tarsila or Frank's Bar level, but it's well above the standard caipirinha bars on the same street.

Compared to the hotel rooftops along Beira-Mar Norte, Black Sheep is cheaper, less formal, and pulls a more local crowd. The trade-off is a slightly less polished service style and a smaller menu. The view is comparable. The early evening fills with professionals from the surrounding office blocks. Later, the crowd shifts younger and the music picks up. Weekends bring occasional DJ sets that push the volume up but don't turn the space into a club.

A few practical notes: the elevator can back up between 9 and 11 PM on Fridays. The bathroom is small for the capacity. Service slows during peak hours but the staff are responsive when flagged down. Pix payments are processed instantly; card transactions occasionally lag on a busy night.

The Neighborhood

Black Sheep sits in the middle of the Rua Bocaiúva cocktail bar cluster, with Duplex 48 and Empório Bocaiúva within a five-minute walk. The Beiramar Shopping mall is across the avenue, and the waterfront at Beira-Mar Norte starts a few blocks east. Most surrounding venues are restaurants and gastrobars; the area is calmer than Lagoa but more active than the southern end of Centro.

Getting There

Uber from anywhere in Centro takes 5-10 minutes and costs R$10-20. From Lagoa da Conceição, expect a 20-minute ride at R$25-40. From Jurerê Internacional, 35-50 minutes depending on summer traffic, R$50-80. The nearest TICEN bus terminal is a 15-minute walk south, but most visitors take Uber directly to the building entrance on Rua Bocaiúva.
