Maria Antonieta
Maria Antonieta has been a Mendoza institution for over 15 years, operating on Belgrano one block north of the Aristides Villanueva strip. The space is larger than it looks from the outside, with an interior that has been through several aesthetic phases and now settles on a comfortable worn-in style: exposed brick, framed posters, mismatched seating. The outdoor terrace on the street side fills first on warm nights. Prices are lower than the polished bars on Aristides, which is a significant part of the appeal. The crowd is genuinely local, spanning university students and neighborhood regulars who have been coming here since before the craft beer boom hit Mendoza. Beer is mostly Argentine industrial lagers served cold. The wine menu goes a bit further with some Lujan de Cuyo producers by the glass.

What to Expect
A classic local Argentine bar. Not polished, not trying to be. The crowd is real, the prices are honest, and the outdoor seating gives you a street-level view of how Mendoza actually goes out. Less tourist-facing than the Aristides venues.
Local, unhurried, warm. The kind of bar where the same table of five has been sitting for three hours and nobody has checked the time.
Background pop and Latin. Volume stays low enough for conversation.
Come as you are. This is Belgrano, not Palermo Soho.
Travelers who want a genuinely local bar experience. Groups starting early who want somewhere relaxed before the night gets going.
Cash and cards accepted. Cash moves faster at busy times.

Full Review
Maria Antonieta does not advertise itself. It does not need to. The regulars keep coming back and word of mouth has made it one of the addresses that appears in every local's recommendations for someone visiting Mendoza.
The interior has been added to over the years rather than renovated. The result is a room with character, where the framed prints on the wall were not chosen by a designer. The bar runs along one wall. Tables fill the interior. The terrace out front has five or six tables that become gold on warm evenings.
Beer selection is straightforward. Quilmes and Brahma dominate the taps; imported and craft options are available but not the point. The wine by the glass list covers some regional Malbecs at prices that represent genuine value. Cocktails are uncomplicated.
Service is attentive without being hovering. Staff know regulars by name and extend the same warmth to newcomers who show basic social awareness. This is one of the few bars in Mendoza where a solo traveler can sit at the bar and have a natural conversation without anyone treating you as a curiosity.
The contrast with the tourist-facing bars on Aristides proper is real. At Maria Antonieta, you are drinking alongside people who live here. That does not happen automatically at the more visible strip venues.
The Neighborhood
One block north of Aristides Villanueva on Belgrano, Maria Antonieta is close enough to the main strip to work as a warm-up or alternative. The surrounding blocks are residential, which keeps the street quieter and the outdoor terrace more pleasant than the noisier parts of Aristides.
