Antares Mendoza

Centro / Plaza Independencia, Mendoza

Antares is a well-known Argentine craft beer brand that has operated a taproom on Arístides Villanueva since the early 2010s. The Mendoza location pours 8-10 house beers on tap, brewed at the Buenos Aires facility: a crisp Honey Ale, a smooth Kolsch, a more demanding Imperial Stout, and rotating seasonal releases that change quarterly. The room seats roughly 80 people across bar stools, high tables, and a row of booths along the wall. Wood paneling and copper fixture accents give it a brewpub warmth without the kitschy excess. The food menu is more substantial than most bars on the strip, covering burgers, sandwiches, and shared plates that pair well with the tap list. On weekend nights, every seat fills by 11 PM and the standing room around the bar gets dense.

Where to stay near Antares Mendoza

Hotels close to Centro / Plaza Independencia, Mendoza.

What to Expect

A proper brewpub atmosphere, not a bar that happens to serve craft beer. The tap list is the reason to be here. Food is solid enough to make it a dinner stop before the night continues. The crowd is 25-40, mixed local and visitor, knowledgeable about beer without being insufferable about it.

Atmosphere

Warm, brewpub social, comfortably loud on weekends without becoming a shouting match.

Music

Background rock and indie at moderate volume. Not a music venue.

Beer enthusiasts, groups looking for a reliable dinner-and-drinks stop, or anyone who wants something more interesting than the standard Argentine lager.

Insider Tip

The beer flight is four 150ml pours and is the best way to sample the range before committing. Thursday nights are quieter and you can actually talk. The Honey Ale is the approachable entry point; the Imperial Stout is for the end of the night.

Full Review

Walking into Antares on Aristides feels like a minor relief from the chaos of the street. The room has proper lighting, actual table service, and a tap list displayed on a chalkboard behind the bar. It is the most polished operation on this stretch of the strip without being pretentious about it.

The bar seats maybe 20 people, and it fills first. The booths along the opposite wall fill second. High-top tables in between are where groups of four and five settle in for the night. The layout is sensible for a busy Friday when new arrivals are constantly looking for any available surface.

The beer quality is consistent with what Antares delivers at its other locations. The Honey Ale works because it is genuinely light without being thin. The Kolsch is clean. The Stout is for the cold Mendoza winter evenings and will slow you down considerably. Staff know the products and can describe the flavor profiles without resorting to generic language.

Food comes out reasonably fast. The burgers are better than the prices suggest. The shared plates work for groups. The kitchen handles the load well and leaving food behind is common.

Compared to the wine bars in Chacras de Coria, Antares is unpretentious and social. Compared to the dive bars further west on the strip, it is a step up in quality without a step up in attitude. It functions perfectly as a starting point before the night moves to clubs.

The Neighborhood

Antares sits on the eastern end of Aristides Villanueva, close to Plaza Independencia and within easy walking distance of the bulk of the centro nightlife. Wine bars and restaurants are nearby; clubs are a 5-10 minute walk west on the same street.

Getting There

Walk from anywhere in the centro. From Plaza Independencia, it is less than two blocks west on Aristides Villanueva. Cabify drop-off anywhere on the street is practical.
