XOYO
XOYO opened in 2010 on Cowper Street, a side road off Old Street in the heart of Shoreditch. The club runs a distinctive model: every quarter, it hands a residency to a single DJ, label, or collective who programs the Friday or Saturday night for a three-month stretch. This rotating approach keeps the venue's identity fresh while building loyal followings for each residency. The space is a converted warehouse with two rooms. The main room holds around 800 people with a proper sound system and a balcony overlooking the dance floor. The second room is smaller, used for different programming or overflow. Entry costs GBP 10-25 depending on the residency and night.
What to Expect
A mid-size warehouse club with rotating programming. The crowd changes depending on the residency: a techno quarter draws a different audience than a hip-hop one. The main room has a good sound system and enough space to dance without being crushed. The venue is dark, industrial, and focused on music.
Varies by residency. A deep techno night feels very different from a garage or hip-hop session. The constant is a music-first crowd that pays attention to what's playing.
Depends entirely on the current residency. Ranges from techno and house to hip-hop, garage, and experimental electronic music.
Casual to smart casual. No strict door policy on clothing, though the crowd tends to dress in line with the musical genre of the night.
Music enthusiasts who follow specific DJs, labels, or genres. The residency model rewards people who know what they're looking for.
Cards and contactless accepted. Cash also works.

Insider Tip
Follow XOYO on social media to track residency announcements. Popular residencies sell out fast, so buy tickets early. The balcony in the main room gives you a view of the dance floor and slightly less intense sound levels.
Full Review
XOYO's residency model is its defining feature. Where most clubs book different DJs every week, XOYO commits to a single vision for three months at a time. Recent residencies have included Four Tet, Ben UFO, and Honey Dijon, each bringing their own sound, audience, and atmosphere. The result is that XOYO functions as a different club depending on when you visit.
The main room is a rectangular warehouse space with a DJ booth at one end, a bar along one wall, and a balcony above. The sound system is well-maintained and powerful enough for the room without being punishing. The ceiling height helps, allowing the sound to breathe rather than compress.
The second room, accessed through a corridor, offers a contrasting musical program. On a big night, the two rooms create a useful valve: if one gets too packed, the other provides space.
The crowd follows the programming. Techno residencies draw the Fabric-adjacent crowd, older and more focused on the music. Hip-hop and garage nights skew younger and more social. This variability means you should check who's playing before committing; your experience depends entirely on the current residency.
Drink prices are reasonable for Shoreditch. The bar staff handle busy nights efficiently. The cloakroom is small and gets backed up at closing time. If you want to leave quickly at 4 AM, keep your coat with you.
Location matters. Cowper Street is a short walk from Old Street station and the heart of Shoreditch's bar scene. Pre-drinks at nearby bars and a post-club walk to Brick Lane for food are standard moves.
The Neighborhood
XOYO sits just off Old Street roundabout, in the heart of Shoreditch's nightlife. Great Eastern Street and Curtain Road are a two-minute walk, with dozens of bars and restaurants. Brick Lane and its late-night food scene is a 10-minute walk east.
Getting There
Old Street station (Northern line) is a 3-minute walk. Shoreditch High Street (Overground) is 7 minutes. Night buses run along Old Street and Great Eastern Street.
