La Musa Latina

La Latina, Madrid

La Musa Latina occupies a corner spot on Costanilla de San Andres, overlooking a small square that becomes one of Madrid's best outdoor drinking spots on warm evenings. The interior is bright and modern, with large windows, high ceilings, and a contemporary design that contrasts with the historic buildings outside. The menu offers creative tapas and larger dishes that update traditional Spanish flavors. The terrace is the main draw: tables on the square fill from late afternoon and stay occupied until midnight, with views across the rooftops of La Latina. Cocktails run EUR 8-11, beer EUR 4-5, and wine EUR 4-7. Tapas portions run EUR 6-12. The crowd is local and leans young professional. Weekend evenings see the terrace fill completely by 8 PM, and walk-ins often face a wait. The bar functions equally well for a quick drink, a full dinner, or a prolonged session on the terrace watching the sunset paint the neighborhood.

Arrive before 8 PM for a terrace table on weekends. The cocktails are better than average for a tapas bar. The patatas bravas and the croquetas are consistently good.

Full Review

La Musa Latina's terrace is the reason to visit. Tables sit on the Costanilla de San Andres square with views over La Latina's rooftops, and on a warm evening the setting is hard to beat. The square is pedestrianized and quiet enough for conversation, with just enough foot traffic to keep the people-watching interesting.

The food goes beyond standard tapas. Patatas bravas come with a homemade sauce that has actual flavor. Croquetas are crisp outside and creamy inside. A tuna tartare was fresh and well-seasoned. Nothing revolutionary, but everything is made with more care than the average La Latina tourist spot.

Cocktails are competent. A gin and tonic was properly proportioned with a premium gin and the right amount of tonic. Wine by the glass covers the main Spanish regions at fair prices. The staff are efficient and friendly, managing the terrace rush with practiced ease.

The main limitation is that La Musa Latina closes relatively early. By midnight on weekdays and 1 AM on weekends, the lights are going off. This makes it a first-stop venue rather than a full-evening destination. Pair it with a walk down Cava Baja afterward for the complete La Latina experience.

The Neighborhood

La Musa Latina is on Costanilla de San Andres, a sloping street that connects the upper La Latina area to Plaza de la Paja. The square is one of La Latina's most pleasant outdoor drinking spots. Cava Baja and its dense bar scene are a five-minute walk south.

Getting There

Metro L5 to La Latina, then walk uphill for 3 minutes. From Sol, walk through Plaza Mayor and continue south past Plaza de la Puerta de Moros. The bar is on the corner of the small square.
